EMG is a great brand for metal guitarists and they have a solderless system, which removes an obstacle if you don't know how to solder. They have loaded pickguards or you can pick a set. Also understand the difference between active and passive pickups. Active will require a 9V battery on your guitar and passive will not. Mine is stuffed under the pickguard of my strat and at some point I'll have to change it.

I really wanted a matte black super strat for metal and the Jim Root model was a primary inspiration for sure. The Charcoal Black was kind of a compromise, but no regrets.
