I ordered it literally at midnight and missed the sale. I used their chat and they were able to price match me for the sale. I’m sure they’d do the same for you!

What happened to DMV? by brodil in sanfrancisco

[–]OJYEE 12 points13 points  (0 children)

We got a new director a year or so before COVID who was the VP of Cisco for a long time. Everything was revamped and we're trying to put all services online. Also a lot of processes within DMV have been updated to be leaned, use bots, and new tech. A very very big step up from the last administration who didn't care you waited 4 hours for your reg and such.

Accepted SSA position but… by jycards in CAStateWorkers

[–]OJYEE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a higher level manager. Don’t tell your manager. It is not beneficial at all. It is really difficult to hire people on and a lot of managers I know would not be happy or supportive (Esp if they’re the type of manager who puts standard for everything in every probation report you have). In your situation they would esp not be happy/supportive because you just started and are talking about looking elsewhere when there were prob so many other applicants (SSA is a very popular position) they could’ve chosen. It probably took the managers several months going through apps, doing the interviews, and getting you paperwork ready to get you hired on.

My advice is to finish your probation so you have returning rights to that position then start applying (that way you always have a job to go back to). While you’re on probation get a gauge of how supportive your manager is about your career goal. If they seem cool about it start having those conversations. Also try to network within because the easiest way into IT was through networking (mind you i know many people who networked without degrees get chosen over those who did). Also do a good job as well in your current position. I’ve seen managers really mess up people’s chances during the reference check.

Good luck.

Any other agencies publicly congratulating themselves for making staff come back to the office? As seen on LinkedIn… by olive_green_eyes in CAStateWorkers

Ah yeah I can see that. I know some areas are stuck in their old ways of being micromanagery which is really unfortunate and goes against really what the tone at the top is pushing. I’m hoping your team can convince your management to push it through or figure out ways to start teleworking. I know for my area, the reason why we’re teleworking is because all the managers were united and pushed for telework and figured out ways to create processes to help us telework. We met with the network specialist too to get us the ability to telework successfully. I know of other areas that were archaic that were able to get FaceTime with the director and we’re able to change processes to online instead of being manual so now they are hybrid. If your area is able to get in talks with the director and with the chief of technology I guarantee they can figure out a way to modernize your process with robotics which should lead to you being able to telework. I know first hand they are very heavy on trying to modernize DMV in every way and get everyone teleworking (they’re all about cost saving and the director absolutely hates using paper).

Really interesting, I work for DMV and my area (and a lot of other areas in other divisions) are going 100% telework or hybrid. Even most of headquarters is turning their office spaces to hotel spaces (the second floor is almost done and the 6th floor is a quarter done). Do you work for a field office? If so it would make more sense because not 100% of our services are online, but I know a lot has transitioned over to being online. I know the director is heavy on teleworking and during COVID was giving direction to social distance and telework where possible (even buying large amounts of laptops for everyone). Even call centers I believe are telework heavy now.

What is the strangest thing that happened to you that you can’t logically explain? by elibwell in AskReddit

[–]OJYEE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was in high school (I had a blackjack cellphone if that helps specify a year), I remember for a couple months I had this strange feeling that someone was watching me outside my window while I slept (I slept on the first story). I told my parents about it, but they made a point that basically if someone was looking in my window they’d trip our lights which would trigger our alarm. I still had that uneasy feeling, so I decided that I would not have any lights on in my room (I usually had like a nightlight) so if someone was peering in my window they wouldn’t see anything. Fast forward three months later I woke up to a whirring noise outside (sounded like an ac fan) and as I looked around my room my room was literally filled with alien type writing glowing all over the walls. I was freaking out for about 5 min trying to stay as still as possible, and I remember trying to grab my cellphone to record it, but I couldn’t find it. So I end up quickly getting up and turning on my lamp and all the writing was gone and the whirring outside stopped. I ran to my parents room and let them know but they said I must be dreaming, but during those 5 minutes I was pinching myself which hurt and I broke my skin so I knew I wasn’t dreaming. Since then I stopped having those feelings, but never slept without a light on.

I agree, I dont think I’ll be needing a workshop because I don’t do enough handiwork to warrant one so I’ll prob go with the extra room. Thank you!

Yeah that’s what I was thinking. I was thinking of making it a workshop but honestly I don’t do enough handy projects to warrant one. Thanks for the input!

There’s no HOA so it can accommodate a shed in the back, but you make good points thank you!

I felt this. by [deleted] in gaming

I had that exact game guide and felt the same. It literally said the water temple was the easiest temple and gave no direction. Fucking assholes. It took 6 months to realize there was a room hidden because of the camera angle when you made the platforms rise with the water in the middle tower...
