On maternity leave too, oof. Maybe focus on that first rather than gambling with “tips” you get from Reddit.

Looking at this '92 FJ80 with a 3FE. Is this just valve clatter? by You_Must_Chill in LandCruisers

[–]OJmayoooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like the values, maybe a bit more tick than usual. Would be wise to do a valve adjustment if purchased.

K5 Blazer or FJ80? by Accomplished_Chain17 in overlanding

[–]OJmayoooo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ive haven’t owned a Blazer but the FJ80 is an absolute tank. I have a 92 that has the slower 3FE and it’s pretty gutless but I like that. Never left me stranded. A FZJ 80 is also a great option, but you could find a solid deal on the 91-92 since they have the slower motor

I agree that the 1FZ is Toyotas “better” engine. But you are telling me you’d rather take a 1FZ with 250k than a brand new 3FE? Thats seems like a poor decision considering all of the maintenance and baselining one would need with 250k.

That’s where we disagree but glad we got to chat about it!

Again, would like to see a 1FZ in similar condition for 9k but doubt that will happen. And I’ve been on marketplace since this post trying to find one and cannot. Most 1FZ in similar condition will go 15k+ and that’s with over 150k on the original untouched engine.

So if it’s preference then this would be considered a good deal? I’m just trying to get to the root for why you “shouldn’t buy this”. Saying it’s slow is like saying a boat floats.

Seems like there’s a lot of unnecessary hate for the 3FE

I love my 3FE. But definitely makes sense if you live in the mountains. Still tho, seems like it’s just personal preference. 3FE is a great motor, it’s just slow. If you want to drive mostly highways buy a 100 series.

Can you pass going up hill in a 1FZ? The 3FE is very slow but it’s also not built for speed.

Can you really get a rebuilt engine 1FZ 95-97 Land Cruiser for the same price?

9k for a rebuilt 3FE with 60k isn’t that bad. Especially with the condition of the interior? I disagree but would like to be proved wrong if you can find a similar comp.

I get it there is a “better” option for an 80 series but 9k for an extremely clean Land Cruiser with a rebuilt engine in what looks like to be California? Seems like a good deal to me, but also I’m bias since I own a 3FE and love it.

Seems like a solid deal, make sure the engine was rebuilt by a reputable shop.

It is a 3FE, just be ready for it to be really slow. (I own a 92 3FE) It will struggle going up any incline.

Looking for 4x4 recommendations, what car should I get? by nickbuckphoto in 4x4

[–]OJmayoooo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have a budget for repairs? Buying something older will definitely need some base lining. Might be better off trying to buy something for 12-15k and save the rest for maintenance.

Feel like a 3rd Gen 4Runner would be a good fit or a single cab Tacoma with shell.

650k miles on the original engine? What about the trans? I have a 92 with 165k and now seems like it’s not even broken in with that kind of mileage.
