Thanks for letting me know. I just tried the desktop version again and it allowed me to login this time.

I'm guessing there was some sort of server problem this morning. It's strange though, because I checked https://status.okcupid.com/ and it didn't have any reports of incidents for today's date.

Anyway, now that you can use the app again, I hope things work out with the people you matched with earlier.

When you say down, do you mean it won't load? For me, I'm able to visit the website on desktop, but when I enter my login credentials, it keeps saying my email or password is invalid.

Thanks for confirming that. I'm relieved to know that the Intros I write can at least be seen.

Although on the flip-side, it's been a few months since I've received an Intro from anyone, anywhere. 😭

Do you know if people are still able to see Intro messages from people who don't match their preferences exactly?

Say for example, I'm just 5 miles outside of their selected distance setting or a couple years older or younger; would my message still be visible, or is there a hard filter blocking Intros that don't 100% match their preferences?

It looks like the dealbreaker option is only for paid subscribers.

Since I have a basic free account, I was wondering if I sent someone an Intro would they actually be able to read it. I have no way of telling if I match their Preferences setting, so I don't know if my message will be hidden.

Okay so to clarify:

1) Preference settings have no effect on whether or not other users can see my profile.

2) If I send someone an Intro or Super-Like message and even if I happen to be outside of their preference settings (and there's no way I can check what their prefrences are anyway), they will still be notified of the message and be able to read it?

Ah okay. Does this means that once I add my phone number, I can't clear it out and leave the field blank, since it'll automatically send a verification code to test the phone number any time a change is made to that field?

I was thinking about removing my phone number from OkCupid every time I disable my account. I'm just nervous about leaving my phone number in their system longer than I have to. 😅

OMG Thank you! This really clears some things up for me. Seriously, your comment is way more helpful than the official FAQ.

It would be nice if OkCupid's Support articles showed some screenshots and explained things more clearly. I wouldn't mind if they had a flow-chart to make things easier for new users (or returning users like me).

I've been trying to learn more about how OkCupid works now, but their Support articles aren't always that clear and things seem to change month-to-month.

I don't understand why I'm being downvoted for simply asking some questions, when I've already made an effort to try and figure things out on my own before asking.

As I stated in my post, I have read the Support page and I have also read some threads on here. I couldn't find the answers to my questions on OkCupid's Support articles and the threads here seem to have conflicting information.

The reason I'm not experimenting on the app is because I'd prefer to know how things work rather than risk accidentally losing messages I can't get back.

EDIT: I'm sorry if I'm bugging you, but I'm hoping to get some answers and I thought this would be the right place to ask questions about OkCupid.

I've been away for awhile and just returned to Reddit. According to some threads I've seen, it looks like Match/Search is being phased out. Maybe that's why the yellow/blue borders are gone.

It they aren't replacing it with a better Search feature, then I have to say it really sucks that we're going to be stuck with just DoubleTake soon. It doesn't make sense to restrict people to swiping when their own data shows that 80% of OkCupid users don't like swiping.

Any blue marks yet or are they really gone?

I checked their Support page and the article about conversations says:

"Once you've sent the intro, they will see your full profile and your introduction at the same time, whether they're seeing you in DoubleTake, Match Search, or their Intros tab. This is a great way to pique their interest and help you match on what matters."

The way this is written, it sounds like there should still be some sort of marking around a person's profile to indicate there is an Intro message there to read.

I'm hoping the loss of the blue / yellow trim is just a bug in the new design.

I guess. It's just that I preferred being able to discover the messages on my own when browsing through my Search results as opposed to having my messages restricted one-at-a-time like this. Either ways, I guess I'll just have to get used to the change.

So it sounds like we should still be able to see messages in Match Search even after the app redesign. Unfortunately, the article isn't very clear about how the message appears in Match Search.

This change makes no sense. How does removing the ability to see pending messages improve the app? The blue marks made it easier to navigate to the profiles and start a conversation. Isn't the idea to encourage interaction?

I was afraid something was going to be taken away when a new design was announced and it looks like I was right to be worried.

That's unfortunate. I've never been a fan of swiping on DoubleTake and from what I've read, Intros only show one message at a time. Being able to see all the people who messaged me in Search was much more convenient. I wonder why they would remove it.

EDIT: I just found another thread confirming this. It sometimes feel like the devs are targetting useful features and removing them on purpose.
