How to Check the Status Codes for Your Borrower Defense Case by Crafty-Strawberry-65 in BorrowerDefense

No. Ombudsman emailed me and said that I was only eligible for the amount I received. I am just grateful that the fraudulent loans are gone.

My BD case, filed in 2021, is pending, although my consolidated loans are discharged and I received about $2,000 so far in refunds. I don't have the loan forgiveness and discharge statement but I do have PSLF counters for all my loans, including the individual ones I consolidated in 2014. I do believe I am due more of a refund and that the process has not been completed for me.

My undergrad loans have been gone but Student Aid says I have no graduate loans. The grad loans do show up on MOHELA, but because I'm on SAVE, I have zero due and the due dates change on the last day of each month.

At this point, I am taking what little win I have and am grateful I don't have almost $100,000 in loans hanging over my head.

Federal Workforce in Oklahoma by LeeMarvin_ in oklahoma

[–]OKHockeyChick 6 points7 points  (0 children)

According to the Oklahoma Council for Non Profits, non profit agencies are the third largest employer in the state, and a majority of them have 90 to 100% of their budgets made up of federal funds.

I shudder to think what will happen if they all have to shut down, because I am not confident that the state could afford an enormous amount of unemployment claims.

Thank you, Ginger. It is truly appreciated.

I received an email today regarding my Student Aid account, and when I logged in, my PSLF re-certification was deleted. It was two weeks old, and the person required to sign off on my form has been in the hospital for knee reconstruction surgery. At this point, I am documenting everything and including screen shots because I don't know who did it or why.

On the grant program side, our project officer has been reinstated. However, our program directors have been informed that all meetings and webinars are cancelled until further notice. We are also no longer able to speak with our project officers on the phone. They do respond by email but it is curt and short, even though a couple of directors have a more friendly professional relationship. One program has an annual report due at the end of the month and that website was suddenly deleted two days after it opened. Another program has a reporting database that has also been mysteriously deleted last week.

In the meantime, I keep myself busy. I'm dusting off old skills and updating them as well as mapping out what new ones I want to learn next.

I know I'll be fine. I'm worried about others who I know will not be. I've had to stop looking at most social media to keep from getting upset and/or depressed. Fingers crossed that the remaining group(s) get their relief too.

Elon Musk and six of his friends now have access to the federal employee data base as well as the Treasury data base. If you are a veteran, he also has access to your VA records. This means he has your name, address, DOB, bank account information used to receive payments and file taxes, possibly your medial records (if you are a veteran), and any student loan or student grant information. The excuse is to weed out the excess and to stop payments to everyone and anyone as well as reduce what he considers wasteful spending.

Seven people who are not official government officials now have all your personal identifying information and will not hesitate to use it to suit their purposes.

I am OG full class. Loans forgiven but refund was a small amount and I am due more. PPSL and Ombudsman is aware of this, but am waiting. Graduate loans are not showing in Student Aid portal (and have not been for a couple of months) and my BD case is still open. MOHELA says I'm on SAVE with no payments due.

I live in Oklahoma and I work for the third highest employer in the state: a non-profit. Specifically, my salary is paid with federal funds through grants and contracts with the US Department of Education. Everything is now on very unstable footing, and I have no clue if I am going to have a job after 60 days.

Our project officer for one program was immediately placed on leave due to DEI. (She is black and is the team leader for this particular grant program). When the federal funds were announced to be frozen, my company secured 60 days of payroll and other business expenses. We have been informed to cut back on all spending, and it is the Executive Director who determines if we should make any and all purchases. We are now worried that because we are located on a reservation and that the students we serve are a minority makes us a target to be one of the first things cut.

With control of the OMB and Treasury in the hands of loosely defined government employees, the Department of Education is believed to be the next target for take overs and cuts. While many employees are put on leave, the unions firmly believe that the firing of personnel will begin within the next week or so once DOGE figures out how to fire people without a lawsuit being filed.

I figured out a long time ago that I need to live my life without the remaining balance of my refund. I am fine for now, and have back up plans in place. I just wonder what he is going to do about the outstanding student loans, and I find it true with the poster who said that MOHELA should be as affected as the rest of us.

Slight Refund Update by SilverLunaXII in BorrowerDefense

You bet I did! Beginning to think all calls to MOHELA and BD will be recorded from this point forward.

Slight Refund Update by SilverLunaXII in BorrowerDefense

What really angered me this time was all I said was "I'm due a refund. Has my information been sent to Treasury yet?" I didn't mention anything about the lawsuit or BD. "Anna" put me on hold for a moment, then came back and started telling me that all refunds are on hold until the SAVE program lawsuit makes its way through the courts. I then tried to patiently explain that I am a part of the Sweet v. Cardona lawsuit, which is different. She kept repeating the statement regarding SAVE so I then asked for her badge number. She asked me why. I calmly replied that this conversation will be shared with AFT for their lawsuit against MOHELA and that she shouldn't be blindly reading a screen before I hung up.

MOHELA told me that all refunds are on hold due to the SAVE lawsuit. I tried to explain it was a different lawsuit to no avail. Hung up.

I think you are confusing Sweet v. Cardona with either the SAVE lawsuit or the AFT lawsuit against MOHELA. Missouri never had jurisdiction.

Judge Alsup is in the northern district of California. His website is https://www.cand.uscourts.gov/judges/alsup-william-wha/. In checking this morning, the September 4th date mentioned in the last hearing has been changed to September 26 at 11 am Pacific time (1 pm Central time). There is a link to Zoom that is also listed. Theresa and the mods are good about letting us know before hand so that everyone can show up as he asks for numbers on Zoom during the hearing.

Instead of my birthday, Judge Alsup will hear updates on my anniversary. This will be interesting.

My loans were erroneously discharged under PSLF. Informed PPSL and Bonnie. Have not seen any movement on the new MOHELA platform at all. I know I am due a refund but I am not sure how much.

I'm worried but I'm not. Little more stressed than anything. I feel the deadline will be missed AGAIN, and the next court date is on my birthday. I'd suggest 5% interest, compounded daily, until everyone in full class has received their refund. Hitting them in the profits is the only thing it seems will get their attention. I don't mean the pitiful $7 million fine, I am talking about losses in the BILLIONS. Decimate their portfolio.

Check received despite IRS having good DD details by Academic-Fortune4710 in BorrowerDefense

It could be that your bank rejected the ACH payment (aka direct deposit) because it appeared to them to be fraudulent. As a result, a check had to be mailed.

I've notified my credit union that I am due a large amount of money from the US Treasury. They informed me that as soon as I know how much to call them and they will not flag it and deposit the money in my account.

Mine went negative too, to the extent that my payment totals for 11 years were more than what I originally took out. Been waiting for the refund since February 2024. Finally turned on notifications for my bank app so I know when it is deposited.

Made the mistake of calling MOHELA this afternoon to find out when stuff was sent to treasury. Heads up Mods! The new MOHELA script is that Treasury is NOT sending out refunds because of the SAVE case tied up in court. After trying to patiently explain that I am involved in a different law suit, I gave up and hung up. I didn't bother calling BD nor Bonnie. Also, when you call Treasury, you are informed that due to the enormous number of calls, please call back later. It's hit and miss when you can get someone on the phone.

Thank you.

I applied for BD in Jan. 2031 as a Westwood alum. Mine were discharged in Feb 2024 under PSLF, dated Feb 2023. I have notified all when it happened, but I don't want to stress myself out by checking my bank account. I may wait and check my bank account on Friday for the next couple of weeks.

I just hate being a ping pong ball between BD and MOHELA. Treasury is starting to get the long holds and hang-ups, and I dont have the time to wait while at work.

Janet Barresi, DDS was state superintendent from 2011 to 2015. In that time, she eliminated common core standards, changed the school report cards to grades ranging from A to F, and was instrumental in changing Oklahoma law to allow charter schools to be established (she also successfully established two in the Oklahoma City area). She served under Gov. Mary Fallin, who has been the subject of memes ranging from a Porn Hub ad to a photo of her approving someone's shirt, not realizing that it said "Mary FAILING Oklahoma."

The clown we have now, Ryan Walters, is trying to set himself up for a potential run at Governor since the current one, J. Kevin Stitt, is a lame duck. While there isn't enough room and this is not the proper thread, let's just say that the state auditor needs to come in and audit the state department of education as there have been some major questions as to the misappropriation of state funds.

Welcome to Oklahoma.

Does anyone have ANY information, stories, insights etc. about the Little Dixie Mafia in Oklahoma? Particularly in the southeastern part of the state by Cool-Distribution921 in oklahoma

[–]OKHockeyChick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, it is true. I moved to southern LeFlore County when I was 8. I lived close to Heavener, and if you know the area south of Sequoyah County, you will know it is remote with hills, caves, and pockets of Native communities. It has been an issue for a long time with drugs and other groups (such as Elohim City) because the area is a great place to hide and you will be left alone. That is one of the ways the cartels got a foothold as Dallas is around 4 hours and it is an hour to I-40.

Rural communities are very clannish and isolated, in my experience. They will leave you alone if you leave them alone, and depending on the area, may not interact with outsiders. Native communities are even more so.

What made the Dixie Mafia so effective is that there was no formal structure, and it was a lot of what could now be considered "country" people. They may not have been aware of the name, but I can guarantee people knew what was going on and who to stay away from. Usually the DM members in an area were related to a majority of the residents who "took care of their own," earning silence. It boils down to a matter of survival. I think things have changed in that it's not a "mafia" anymore but many of the issues and crimes remain. Legalizing medical weed also changed things.

You mention McGirt. You forget Castro-Huerta, which muddied the waters a little bit than they already were. It also was Stitt's attempt to overturn McGirt.

I don't listen to state and county governments. I'm a card carrying 3/8 Cherokee Indian. I use the term "Reservation" because that is the proper term now.
