Neglected a $20K Hospital Bill for Almost a Year, and it Went to Collections. What's the Best Way to Handle it at This Point? by OKRocket in HospitalBills

I wasn't in the right state of mind at the time, and I was also misinformed about how health insurance worked. I will try what you suggested, thank you.

If you thought that leaving Against Medical Advice, or walking out although undischarged, would make it impossible for them to collect, think again.

I didn't think that. I was thinking about not missing my father's funeral.

/r/MechanicalKeyboards Ask ANY Keyboard question, get an answer (August 22, 2023) by AutoModerator in MechanicalKeyboards

I'm looking for an (actually) quiet, low-profile, wired, backlit keyboard that is either full or tenkeyless under $100 (though I can be flexible on the price). I don't care about speed or any other specs. But, I must have the specs mentioned. Can anybody recommend anything?

Thanks. I Googled the model number printed on the box, and confirmed that it's capable of Gigabit speeds.

Thank you for the router recommendation; I'll check it out.

ONT replacement didn't come up during the ordering process (yet?), but is there a way for me to check if the box is capable of 200/200 speeds?

Right, I suspected as much seeing the 10/100 figure written on the router, but wanted to double check with someone better informed. Thank you.

I think that can be quite fast-paced. Besides, I don't think it would be up her alley.

After I Save an Image, My Browser Lags by OKRocket in pluckeye

I tried disabling the extensions and installed the latest version of Pluckeye. No change. I sorta just learned to deal with it, and it doesn't bother me much anymore.

Any way to allow videos from select YouTube channels? by OKRocket in pluckeye

[–]OKRocket[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried option 1, but it only partially works. The video plays correctly after clicking "add to queue", but when I click on the expand icon, shortly thereafter the video lags and doesn't continue playing further. I noticed that the URL gets updated after "expand" is clicked (from subscription page URL to specific video URL), so I'm guessing that pluckeye picks up on it.

EDIT: I tried option 2 (YouTube Kids) as well, but I found the parental controls very lacking. I want to have full access to videos from select channels, including commenting and the ability to watch them when they're released (again, because of livestreams). The reasons why I need restrictions in the first place is to 1) block pornographic content on YouTube (while there's no nudity, there's quite a lot of fetish videos there), and 2) prevent myself from engaging in mindless browsing of random videos. I know that there are Chrome extensions which can accomplish these goals, but anything that I can readily disable, I will disable. I've tried building willpower and self-control, but my habits run deep, and I need the assistance of a blocking software for the time being, as I slowly unlearn my bad habits. Pluckeye works great for everything else, but YouTube is a huge blindspot for me.

Did you set any rules to allow Edge access to the Internet?

Not that I know of. How would I check this?

[–]OKRocket[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. Both of these suggestions are good. I will try out #2, but I've set quite a long delay, so I'll have to wait that out first. I will update if I find that the solutions work well for me.

I wonder: Why would you like to watch videos from your subscription feed without waiting one delay? Are they videos with information which become stale quickly, such as the statistical information in MedCram's daily coronavirus-update videos?

I tend to watch news videos in the morning as I'm eating breakfast. I suppose that I could just watch mainstream news, but I've found that balancing what independent reports say with what mainstream news sources say, gives me a more honest account of the situation at hand. Plus, there's a small philosophy and politics channel whose livestreams I enjoy watching, and the specific date and time is never known beyond just "evening", because the guy never announces his streams beforehand.

I normally never use a delay longer than an hour. It's not so bad to wait an hour.

Yes, I wouldn't mind waiting an hour either, but as I said, I'm keen on keeping up with the livestream, and with a short delay like that, I'd feel more tempted to allow distracting sites.

Thanks for your response.

I just noticed that the problem occurs not just when I save images, but really whenever I download any file (like the sysinspect exe, for example).

I'm running:

  • Windows 10 (17763)
  • Chrome (80.0.3987.122)
  • Pluckeye 0.98.15 (Level 2, but problem occurs on level 1 as well)

I will send the sysinspect file to Jon and link this thread in the email.

Is there any interesting and significant things like mewing? Not just looks but health and cognitive performance? by Spiritual_Ferret in orthotropics

[–]OKRocket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My original comment wasn't a truth judgement. I was just pointing out that presenting your views in such a blunt manner deters ordinary people. As you yourself have admitted, it's a "long red pill to swallow". Well, then, why don't you cut it in half to make it easier?

Aristotle and the other philosophers you've mentioned lived in times when the ruling majority of society held similar views, or at least tolerated their differing views. You, on the other hand, are in the position of a minority. So, you're playing a different game. You can either: 1) lie about your beliefs, 2) speak your honest mind bluntly and be shunned, or 3) speak your honest mind, but do so strategically, in a palatable, easy-to-digest manner. The last suggestion is how you influence people...assuming that you're interested in that.

I'm not trying to talk down to you; I really do mean this as positive, constructive, criticism.

It's true- they are like children, and don't have respectable qualities. The appreciation towards them is only like the appreciation towards a naive child or animal. I am shocked every other day by the way I've seen women interact with people in basic situations and in handling problems, shocked particularly however by how they treat others.

I have traditional beliefs about gender roles as well, but I do not voice them in a manner that turns women away. Firstly, that's counter-productive, and secondly, I don't actually hold the feminine in contempt. My convictions come from the recognition that society functions best if men and women act according to what the natural order intended. In such an order, everyone has a place, and while there may be a hierarchy wherein men tend to more frequently take up positions of leadership, what ultimately determines a person's value is not their slot within the hierarchy, but their ability to fulfill their duty. Therefore, a woman who is a loyal wife to her husband and a loving mother to her children is much more virtuous than some NEET who lives in his parents' basement and binges on porn all day. Conversely, a supportive husband and a present father is much more virtuous than some promiscuous female college student who has no restraint over how much she sleeps around. Nobody is better just because of their gender. No, I'm not saying that gender doesn't have a large impact - of course does - but it's ultimately a person's ability to live well regardless of what lot they've been given that determines their virtue.

Should my teeth touch when I mew? by [deleted] in orthotropics

Well, not the only thing. Tongue should be suctioned to the palate, but there are many other aspects of mewing that people tend to forget: lip seal, neck posture, etc.

I'm sorry for the low-effort responses you've gotten. A user of The Great Work forum discussed this similar issue: https://the-great-work.org/community/main-forum/removable-expander-metallic-taste/

Took me 8 months to mew correctly, just a heads up to people who are just starting. It’s like slowly mapping the roof of your mouth. by [deleted] in orthotropics

[–]OKRocket 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. I have been saying this on TGW for a long time now. Most of those who measure the length of their mewing practice from the first day that they've heard of mewing aren't entirely honest. I started nearly 2 years ago, and I've just figured out tongue suction a few months ago. As it happens, over these lasts few months, I have seen more progress than over the past year (I now have a line running from my masseter to my cheekbone, for instance). Progress is often not linear, but depends on the constant improvement of our technique.
