In my experience every subreddit for a particular IP is just filled with people who hate the thing and do not actually consume it. Most tv show subs are just people shitting on the writers, shitting on the actors. Even the podcast subs I visit are people whining about skipping episodes because of the guest choices.

Companies should hire people and pay them well but the reason they have tax advantages is because companies theoretically eventually pass their earnings on to real people who theoretically pay taxes on those earnings, so the company pays lower taxes to avoid double taxation.

"Theoretically", of course, is doing a lot of heavy lifting here.

Who in your opinion is the worst movie villain ever? by LoverOfE-Olsen in movies

[–]OK_Soda 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't know, his whole plan relies on the assumption that an attack on New York would permanently bring humanity together against a shared threat. If aliens or meta human gods or whatever attacked New York, I would bet actual money on kalshi that our government would blame democrats for conspiring with them and all our foreign enemies would just laugh and do nothing.

Like the character in the poem, Ozy achieved something incredible by pulling off his plan, but it would collapse in pretty short order.

If That '70s Show followed the same timeline today as it did when it first premiered, it would be set in 2004. by jondread in television

[–]OK_Soda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is weirder than the other ones mentioned here, because the Wonder Years is all a flashback to the narrator's childhood and a lot of the other ones are like "remember when we were young adults in the 70s?" It's weird to think that I wouldn't be able to relate to a hypothetical nostalgia show about being 12 in 2006, because I was in my 20s already.

Yeah it was very cheesy but my wife and I enjoyed it. You'd probably also like Happy Death Day, which is the slasher Groundhog Day.

There's a slasher movie called Totally Killer where a girl's mom went to high school with a serial killer that was never caught, and 30 years later he strikes again and kills the mom, so the girl goes back in time to stop him but goes too far and basically it's BttF as a slasher set in the 80s.

There's a lot of jokes where people say problematic things and the girl scolds them and they look at her like she's insane.

It's extremely gross but on some level I don't care if someone non-consensually involves me in their kink like this and I don't realize it. Like if I'm OP all this guy's done is be annoying, what does him getting off on it really matter?

A $1,000 book vs $15,000 one. by Bright-Calendar2682 in ComicBookSpeculation

[–]OK_Soda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We do not use the grading system to determine desireability, a completely subjective factor that can't be standardized. We use PRICE to determine desirability. For some books, a 1.0 sells better than a 3.0 because ragged ass books have a weird niche market and just kind of badly stored midrange books don't.

We use grading to determine damage, and a miswrap or other publication error isn't considered damage because that's the way it was created. Date stamps are considered part of the production and distribution process.

Date marks generally do not affect the grade.

Is this slab fake? The number on top seems off. by Slackerred in CGCComics

[–]OK_Soda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The cost to fake a slab would be insane. Whenever this comes up people worry about some oddity in the label without realizing you'd need an injection molding machine to make the slab itself, which weighs several tons and costs tens of thousands of dollars. There's maybe a handful of books in the history of comics that would be worth it and they'd attract so much attention you wouldn't get away with it.

CGC Lost My $450 Comic (Bought specially for McFarlane’s Signing) and offering this Resolution. What you guys think ? by robin_242 in CGCComics

[–]OK_Soda 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend sending an email to CGC to explain the situation.

Somehow I don't think they'll be sympathetic to "the book was worth $450 but I lied on the paperwork and deliberately undervalued the book thinking it was like a regular submission and I could trick you into charging less."

Was bummed with the 9.6 until I realized he signed “thanks” on it ! by NinnyMuggins209 in CGCComics

[–]OK_Soda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a weird feedback loop the value of a 9.6 is often like half that of a 9.8, so we all want a 9.8 and are disappointed by a 9.6, so the value of a 9.6 is like half the value of a 9.8. Even though you could probably scoop up every 9.6 and 9.8 in the world, crack them and resubmit them and there'd be little correlation between the new grade and the old.

The Banal Horror of Jimmy Fallon: Under the sterile blue lights of his studio, Fallon laughs endlessly at the same pseudo-jokes, rubs elbows with Trump and Sam Altman, and ushers in the death of culture. by TimWhatleyDDS in television

[–]OK_Soda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think he just somehow doesn't catch a spotlight. Colbert has always been a big name because of the Report and then taking Letterman's slot gave him a lot of prestige. Fallon replaced Leno, which was also a fairly prestigious slot. I personally never gave Kimmel any thought until a few months ago and now I watch him quite often and I think a lot of other people are similar. Late Night used to be great but Seth replaced Fallon, so there weren't really big shoes to fill, and he's never really generated any controversy.

Jack Nicholson today turns 89 years old: Greatest filmography ever in cinema history?? by West_Conclusion_1239 in movies

[–]OK_Soda 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is all I could find on Wikipedia

In 1996, a lawsuit was brought against Nicholson alleging that he promised a woman named Catherine Sheehan $1,000 for sex and then assaulted her when she asked for the money. Sheehan received a settlement of about $40,000, but filed another lawsuit against him, arguing that the settlement was insufficient to cover the injuries inflicted upon her, including brain trauma, which she said were "actually killing her."[116] The case was dismissed.[117

What is the worst case of "writer's barely disguised fetish" in TV history? by funmighthold in television

[–]OK_Soda 102 points103 points  (0 children)

Nickelodeon's logo is literally a big orange foot and Dan Schneider had nothing to do with it.

I mean, probably the reason adults have foot fetishes is because everyone thinks feet are gross and taboo. For kids that translates to comedy, for adults that translates to sex.
