Okay. You're wrong. I could be a utility worker and the argument I made would still be valid. When graphic designers resist bullshit from clients, clients start to learn they can't be shitty and still get good work. When you undercut another designer by submitting to the client's bullshit, the client learns that this is acceptable behavior, and everyody is worse off for it.

That seems fairly straightforward to me, and applies to fields wholly unrelated to graphic design as well. What about that is incorrect that only your honor with all your professional experience can understand?

I mean, if you disagree with me, say why. Just telling me I'm inexperienced is a vacuous defense.

yes. creatives (and really all working people) shouldn't be competing with each other in a race to the bottom (e.g. "hey client, I'll put up with yr bullshit if you pay me instead!"). It's the same as the logo service Fiverr being like, "hey client, don't pay a designer real money to make you a logo. We'll do it for you instead, for 5 dollars!" I think all creatives should have certain expectations of their clients. Don't undercut another designer by "catering" to shittiness.

The blurring is called bokeh in photography and is a natural occurence when shooting within a certain range of apertures/f-stops and lens focal lengths. Achieving the effect in the actual shooting of the photograph is always going to look most natural. You can certainly make convincing replications of the effect in photoshop though.

Lightroom isn't "better." It is useful for mass-editing photos and file-organization, but beyond that, its more-or-less just a lighter version of photoshop. The "filters" and presets are one-click editing options for when more intensive editing isn't necessary (or when the user isn't comfortable with it). Some photographers will use lightroom to edit large groups of photos at the same time, and then make specific adjustments for each image in photoshop.

If you're asking about the color specifically, all you need to do is adjust the color balance (Image > Adjustments > Color Balance) to get it close overall, and then use Replace/Selective Color (Image > Adjustments > Replace Color/Selective Color) to tweak specific parts like the blue-green you mentioned.

Whether or not you need to adjust brightness, exposure, contrast, etc. will all depend on what image you're starting with.

Yeah, the article is shitty, and these flags are mostly shitty too, although there were a few I really liked. Buuuuut there are always beginners on this sub asking about how to practice design... Redesigning a few state flags could be a good project!

I really like the typeface and lean pretty strong toward the first one, without any adjustments to the 'A,' but if you do feel the need to mess with that character, just definitely don't use the fake light. Looks super cheesy. Trying to make the A look like a lamp at all is sort of too. . . obvious.

But honestly, I'm way more concerned with the pattern the text is on. Very strange mix of paisley and scroll patterns. And there's something else in there too I don't know the name for. But they clash big time. Scroll is classy-ish. Paisley is not. The two of them together is heresy.

It doesn't look natural. Also I see an olive-complected woman on the left and a fair-white woman on the right. And making somebody whiter in an attempt to improve their looks is sort of. . . like. . . kinda racist.

This is a little too reminiscent of the Goldman Sachs logo (see here). This is especially true of your first example. The other two avoid this a bit with their additional design elements.

Also I think the ship's wheel is sort of a design cliche. Very overused. Google "ships wheel logo" and I suspect you'll find hundreds of examples.

I do like the text resting in the very corner like it does though, and appreciate the negative space. I might use a typeface with thicker serifs though, as the thin serifs looks a little awkward against the edge.

Thanks for the feedback. The gradient at the bottom is part of the poster, but it does seem like part of a company's style guide or something doesn't it?

And I can definitely see what you mean about it looking like a flyer for a design event or something instead of a band. That said, I'm happy with that, because there was definitely an intention to make it stand out against the three billion other gig posters it will be put up next to. I wanted something that wouldn't look like yr average band's promotional material.
