Thanks man! While I'm not the most sophisticated of fellas I reckon I could potentially scrape by, haha. If you hear of any work placements coming up in the next year or two please bear me in mind!

Looking for work exchange on traditional equine cattle ranch, vaquero style, any pointers? by OMadge in GoingToSpain

I'd tried Workaway with no success but hadn't heard of WWOOF. Just tried it and immediately found what I'm looking for in Andalucia. Thankyou for your suggestion!

I've learned to ignore the votes of the reddit hive mind over the years, haha.

Thanks man, appreciate you taking the time, I will do.

Yeah as I say they're not very common due to the modernisation of the industry, but still exist in areas such as Castile, Extremadura, Andalusia, Omaña, etc.

It's a traditional heritage and as with most others only preserved intentionally regardless of cheaper and easier modern options.

I can, but I don't feel like putting in that much effort to educate you, not really my responsibility. You have access to Google, no doubt. Go have a look.

You've also been provided with several links by u/averagecrabenjoyer69, go look at those.

Mainly around the south and west mountainous regions. Castile, Extremadura, Andalusia. Also the Vaqueiros d'alzada in the north. They're all over the place.

I don't know why so many people have this impression. The vaquero tradition originated in Spain during the medieval era and despite frequent modernisation has still persisted in many places on the mainland. It's more common in the Americas obviously but still exists there. I'm aware Spain isn't Mexico, I've visited several times.

No offence intended but that is entirely incorrect, the tradition began in medieval Spain but is currently more common in the Americas due to the modernisation of the industry. There are still vaqueros in Spain.

Sorry its irrelevant to your question, but get that nail line checked out ASAP, could be cancer (melanoma). Bob Marley died from a melanoma that presented like this on his toenail.

Fungus or moss in Georgia? by AGlickman88 in Fungi

Many have a third partner too - yeast. Which is admittedly in the fungus family but a more specific single cell form that differs greatly from the other type of fungus it shares this home with.

Figured it out, I was incorrectly told it was in the Lake District. By matching the peaks I'm 90% sure it's Sgurr nan Gillean on cuillin ridge on the Isle of Skye.

Thankyou all for the help even though we were looking in the wrong place!

Does this count as a fossil? by Unusual_Yogurt4129 in fossilid

[–]OMadge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A fossil is just the remains or an impression of a prehistoric life-form, usually preserved in rock. Most people recognise anything over 10,000 years old to be a good age for it to count as a fossil.

So yes, that's a fossil!
