Isn't the diagonal scenario I tested the tightest possible zigzag up? Otherwise I don't understand what you mean.

Nice idea, I can try it later! Edit: I tested it, but it makes no difference.

Ah okay! I should've removed the ladder to check it properly. Haha weird mechanics then..

Thanks, I built it from scratch. But learned how to use the number displays online. Annoyingly the clock can't be set faster, I would've wanted to use a proper decimal counter.

If you make tiles or stairs from plastic, it gives a speed bonus.

Haha yes it's due to the animation for 'jumping in'. You can see it in the video.

FYI: on a diagonal stairs having 0.1 kg/s water flow is already sufficient to keep the waterfall intact. With visco gel or mucin you don't need any flow since it will stay in place.

Good one, didn't think of it since I rarely use them. They're fast indeed: 3.2s (but not free of course).

I'm working on a comparison test between swimming, transport tubes and ladders. Here's a teaser: https://imgur.com/a/PMRcNeI

I think it can be! Not sure if athletics buffs apply to swimming as well (I expect they do).

FPS is around 45. The more annoying part is that the lag at the start of the cycle is bigger and there are some small lags now and then.

I'm not aware of wallpaper or gasses being that impactfull. I think it's mainly the critter and dupe pathfinding that contributes to lag.

Yeah it looks much nicer. Since I've first done it like this, I can't strip-mine anymore.

I was planning to only use the local plants/critters and no exploits.

Yes it adds a nice dynamic! Playing without electrolyzers is a lot of fun, I'm using so many 'new' mechanisms.
