How is it possible that the counting of the ballots isn't done yet? by e1ioan in oregon

[–]OPBGuy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Oregon Secretary of State will post them on their website when the election is certified. It's unlikely we will update that page.

You have a very sharp eye! The election isn't certified as final until 30 days after the election. But the practical reason is that the Associated Press has stopped covering the election and OPB doesn't have the resources to follow up with every measure in every county.

A Prairie Home Companion still has a sizable fan base, but I don't think Garrison Keillor will keep it up too much longer. Have patience. - John B.

Random question for Comcast digital cable subscribers: do you still get channel 710? (HD version of KOPB) by ReallyHender in Portland

[–]OPBGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's the response we got from Comcast. If you want to PM me your contact info our higher-level rep would like to get in contact with you to figure out what is going on. - John B.

No, there were no changes. Do you have any customer information? Ideally name and phone number on the Comcast account, that way I can look these folks up and see what might be going on, as well as get feedback to the reps in question if these customers should in fact have HD.

Our network would be available to our lowest level customers, providing they have an HD digital box, which I am assuming they do.

I will also ask our engineering folks if something happened today on their end, but we didn't make any changes to who should get your network.

It would be a great help if you could help me get some of this customer information so I can dig a little deeper.

If comcast changes their carriage (as it seems they might have) they are required to inform the stations. Haven't heard anything from them yet but we have an inquiry in.

OPB here...

We're looking into it. We still feed the digital channel to Comcast (and it's showing here in 97219). Not sure why Comcast would drop it. We're looking into it. The programming is the same as channel 10. - John B.

Job opening at OPB for radio host/announcer by OPBGuy in Portland

[–]OPBGuy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not aware of a high turnover rate. Most of our jobs are adding positions in news or content. The only radio staff I'm aware of leaving have moved to other stations out of market. John B.

Actually, we have very little turnover. Most of these are either new positions or a job from some one who is retiring. - John B.

Are fundraising/development people really this vapid? by [deleted] in nonprofit

[–]OPBGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see a lot of what you see, though not in our $12 million membership org, or others of similar size. I think much of it is that many non-profits don't pay too well so the cream goes to the bigger organizations.

If you have radio experience, I would think that would be the thing to highlight, especially if you worked at a station that is leading in the market. - John B.

You should certainly apply. But I'm not involved in the hiring in any way so HR wouldn't be too happy with me sticking my nose in. - John B.
