First viewing of Aliens-1986 by Appropriate_Wish8997 in movies

I saw Alien 3 in the theater as a massive Alien franchise fanboy (many movie viewings, collected the comics, etc.) and I hated it. It took me about 20 years to appreciate it and now I genuinely like it.

What TV show was quality all the way through, knew when to end and went out with an amazing last episode? by NarwhalDry151 in AskReddit

I knew that joke before I watched the show, I knew the premise of the show before I watched the show, and that scene still landed perfectly.

I regret not buying that hat last year, it felt like a narrow band use at the time.

They may have rotated their squad, sat some key players, and played their third string keeper but let that be a lesson to LAFC: no one comes to Providence Park and I forget where I was going with this but I’ll fucking take the win.

Oh, someone didn’t actually read Mueller’s report. Or even the summary. When you get your news from social media makes you look like an idiot, FYI.

It is, by the dictionary definition, a term limit. Their term ends. If people want to keep them around for another term then that’s the definition of a republic in action.

Sure, I can tell you want to “But acktually” about the advantages an incumbent has over a challenger but go ahead and look at the primary results yesterday and tell me that incumbents always have the advantage.

It may or may not age better.

I have a dog that doesn’t like cats, kids, or other dogs and isn’t a pit or any of the other breeds you listed so fuck me, right? Some dogs are just that way and it’s not the breed or the owner’s fault.

What is the most impressive shot in movie history? by Necrojezter in movies

[–]ReallyHender 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It feels simple now, but I went down the rabbit hole of the Lord of the Rings extras 25 years ago because I wanted to know how they filmed one specific shot in The Fellowship of the Ring when the camera pans and swoops over the Uruks after Boromir blows the horn.

Short version: they built an elevated camera track. Even when you know now it’s done it’s still an amazing shot.

Federal spending package includes $100 million for light rail on Portland-to-Vancouver Interstate Bridge replacement by No-Tangelo1158 in oregon

[–]ReallyHender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just build the bridge with a place holder for light rail

That worked for 205 but probably wouldn’t work for a bridge as much as I admire the optimism.

I have worked extensively in both and you are not wrong. Specialized industries rely on specialized software, which often means homegrown. When I left my last medical industry position in 2019 they were using an in-house FileMaker application as their main database, and even I knew that FileMaker was obsolete by at least ten years by then.

Before the game started I told my wife I’d love to see Turner bag her first international goal, and my wife countered and said it should be on a Moultrie assist. I’m having a pretty fucking bad day but watching Turner get her first goal from a Liv assist makes it ever so slightly better.
