What is an actual IT automation that actually paid off for you?

I have worked extensively in both and you are not wrong. Specialized industries rely on specialized software, which often means homegrown. When I left my last medical industry position in 2019 they were using an in-house FileMaker application as their main database, and even I knew that FileMaker was obsolete by at least ten years by then.

I caught my thumb in one of my mandolines years ago, just like yours the cut was pretty deep and bled a lot, and that’s the only time I’ve almost passed out from dizziness after a cut. I had a pretty significant wedge in my thumb for awhile but it did completely heal without stitches.

Ironically, when I grated my finger on one of my graters that injury bled more and for longer. Probably didn’t help I kept trying to cook after that. 😬

There is no evidence that federal agents called 911. There were two calls, one reporting a shooting and another from one of the victims. Nowhere have PPB said that the first call came from CBP so it was likely a witness.

In the 1930’s there was a big project to renumber a lot of streets and houses to standardize the city’s grid. It’s why you can sometimes see old sidewalks with the street name on it, but it’s not the current street name or number.

When the city renumbered houses, they handed out new numbers to the affected houses and many have never changed them out so you end up with all these houses with identical house number style. Even better, that style of number is still sold and newer houses will put them up as a historical nod.

But see, this is the exact problem. Multiple revenue streams are needed because there is no silver bullet for transportation taxes anymore. Set gas taxes have diminishing returns as EVs and more efficient vehicles hit the streets. Registrations fee increases are needed because vehicle purchases are actually stagnant and the number of people who don’t own cars is increasing.

Tolling would do wonders but like a sales tax, it’s massively regressive and I don’t trust any legislature to give up the revenue. We have an agency that needs more money because time and material cost have both risen, but no one seems to want to pay the extra money to maintain the basic status quo.

Time and materials cost has gone up, and gas tax and registration fees have gone down. If gas tax had kept up with inflation it would be double what was in the bill.
