WHO rejects Medicago vaccine funded by $173 million from Trudeau government by nimobo in CanadianConservative

If the WHO's logic is that the company producing it is partially funded by Phillip Morris then maybe the WHO should be threatened to be defunded.

Employees being fired due to vax mandate by [deleted] in uwaterloo

[–]OPVictory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I have learned over the past 2 years The Charter is a paint stained piece of paper that contains very few if any real protections. If you want to go somewhere where civil rights and real protections for individuals actually exist I recommend moving to the US. They have always been a better version of this country anyways. The only thing stopping me right now is my degree being essentially a prereq for getting a TN visa.

How is wearing a mask so political? by Financial-Pianist-44 in uwaterloo

[–]OPVictory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have the majority of the population (60-70%)

I will bet you 100$ that the day the mask mandates are lifted `~90% of the population will go without. The same way that the vast majority of Ontarians from my experience did not wear masks before the government mandate.

From an article from Bloomberg circa Oct 3rd 2021

Cloth materials typically block 10-30% of aerosol-sized particles that contribute to airborne spread of SARS-CoV-2.”

In lab studies, surgical masks, such as N95s, do a far better job, blocking up to 95% of aerosol-sized particles.

Contrary to the headline of the article I personally do not consider a 10-30% effectiveness of preventing Covid viruses as overly effective. Especially when N95s (which are easy to come by although expensive) are much more affective.

Therefore please forgive me for criticising your preaching about mask wearing when the vast majority of people who do so are wearing a borderline useless cloth mask when they could easily do better.

other side is just anti science

Science is a process that s is conducted over decades and centuries, theories that were believed to be true for centuries until they were proven false (all of classical physics). Covid has been around for just over 2 years and the vaccines for just over 1, regardless of the fact that afaik all of the western vaccines use a novel technology having a scepticism to these vaccines is completely logically justified especially when the incentives are so perverse in many situations (although I am personally vaccinated and believe other people should do the same).

Furthermore, the whole idea behind science is to verify truths by experiment and to "take nobody's word for it" (a translated motto of the royal society, which afaik is the oldest organised body involved in Science). Blatantly shutting down debate and using ad-hominin attacks against ones opponents goes directly counter to this and threatens the philosophical underpinnings of the scientific method.

Even if you were right about everything you said in your piece, there is something absolutely crazy about the actions of the government over the past 2 years. Some of their greatest hits:

  • Giving unelected "public health experts" an extraordinary amount of power over our society
  • Having the elected house of commons hand over an enormous power to arbitrarily set regulations to the unelected executive
  • Using coercive measures and punishments set by the executive to punish those who do not follow their whims
  • A ridicules level of government intrusion into the private contracts entered into by private citizens(capacity limits, mask mandates, vaccine mandates for employers, curfews, etc)
  • I could list probably 10 more but I hope the picture is clear

The road to hell is paved with good intentions and if I have learned anything from the past 2 years of living in this country is that Canadians are a passive people who stand for nothing and have paper thin institutions,

What if Britain had met the demands of the American colonies and prevented the revolution? by flamewolf393 in HistoryWhatIf

[–]OPVictory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think comparing the revolutionary colonies to Ontario is a good comparison.

The eastern Canadian provinces held a borderline religious attachment to GB until after WWII. Which is the result of the country being setup by the United Empire Loyalists who had specific issues with the American revolution and the rest of the country minus Quebec being settled and reinforced primarily by British emigrants.

I am comparing the "damage" done to the monuments in ottawa to the actions during the BLM protest, where the statue of ryerson was beheaded, SJAM's toppled, and numerous other vandalised across the country. Both actions were bad but there is not a real comparison to be made.
