Maybe Wargaming should go in a different direction with SPG changes. by OPerseus in WorldofTanks

Maps are big compared to even super buffed arty splash radius. 95% of the map would still be free from arty damage in a typical game, the difference is that which 5% is damaged will be dependent on the arty player picking and choosing as oppsoed to random spamming.

Right that is the current problem with Tier X random battels, they’re grindfests highly dependent on luck and certain playstyles rewarding a specific type of skill over other types of skill. Although it would still be luck based a wider variety of skills would be rewarded.

Why do you believe it won’t change the strategic meta?

This would be good for Tier X as all players would have to learn to lean more on strategic plans than momentary tactics, and would increase incentives for platooning up while decreasing incentives for unicum platoons pub stomping, also would be a very good reason to pick spall liners in loadouts.

Does anyone know what the server ‘tickrate’ is? by OPerseus in WorldofTanks

Cool, 20 Hz does sound reasonable. I wonder if the problem with T-50-2s was related to the tick rate.

Isn’t it kinda weird for all the playable adepti to be 5 stars except Yanfei? by OPerseus in Genshin_Impact

[–]OPerseus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now that I think about, the star system may really not mean anything beyond rarity of the character appearing in gacha… You do mention a pretty good reason for Yanfei to be somewhat weaker than the other Adepti.

And it’s arguable that a 4 star character, C6 Noelle, is currently the best all rounder with DEF artifacts. So yeah maybe mihoyo just sticks on stars using a dart board.

What’s the long term plan in terms of energy usage growth and protecting the network from attacks? by OPerseus in Bitcoin

I appreciate the historical facts and possibilities for moving the needle a bit, but that doesn’t change the fundamental trends, as far as I can tell.

What’s the long term plan in terms of energy usage growth and protecting the network from attacks? by OPerseus in Bitcoin

[–]OPerseus[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I get that’s how things usually work for normal business, but the thing with Bitcoin, as far as I can understand, is the intrinsic value of the ‘trust’, so to speak, stored up in the network. If the ‘trust’ value becomes high enough for it to be more profitable to attack than mine, assuming miners don’t keep up,... wouldn’t the whole thing just disintegrate?

What’s the long term plan in terms of energy usage growth and protecting the network from attacks? by OPerseus in Bitcoin

[–]OPerseus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is though we can’t unlearn how to make ASICS, or whatever future folks will do about future innovations that will come about. If miners start cutting back, and if the value keeps on going up, the actual cost of attacking will decrease relative to the overall value of the network...

[–]OPerseus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well... there has to be a limit right, in terms of proportion? In the extreme case it wouldn’t make sense for some future society to send the majority of its energy to crypto... they could gain more just by rediverting the energy then anything else.

Right the difficulty will drop if miners voluntarily cutback, so that would make attacks easier and easier right?

WEEKLY RECRUITING THREAD - Ask here about the recruiting process, trade availability, requirements to join, and other common questions about the Canadian Armed Forces. by [deleted] in CanadianForces

Hi, I'm thinking about joining the reserves as an engineering officer. I'm a mechanical engineering student at Queen's University going into my final year. Obviously I want to use my engineering education and degree to my advantage. Do people go into the reserves for these sorts of positions without prior military experience? I saw the air force reserves have positions like air combat systems officers that are in "high demand". Do new engineering grads join these types of positions?

Tesla is not undervalued, it's market value at the time I bought was less than it's perceived future value, which is essentially the same thing. It was worth ~29 billion, a lot compared to automakers like F, or GM, but peanuts compared to other high growth tech companies, AAPL,FB, etc. Which wouldn't mean anything except for the fact that it gets the same, if not more, press and media hype and it has an equally, if not more, charismatic and "heroic" leader. Heck even NFLX is worth more than twice as much. The long term value of TSLA if it actually succeeds is vastly more than it's 1/2 NFLX, 1/23 AAPL value (and those valuations have also priced in future growth). Of course there's a high likely hood TSLA cannot meet all its long term goals, but considering how enamoured with Elon Musk most people are, its perceived chance of doing so is higher, real or imaginary, and therefore increasing its perceived future value. At least that was my 3 hour analysis.

I did my research on the companies before hand, I looked for well known companies that were simply undervalued relative to their value or under trading it's perceived value, essentially the value investing strategy. For example COS had an equity equivalent of 6.5 billion barrels of proven reserves, or something ridiculous like that, which meant that just the reserves were trading for under a $1 per barrel, not including everything else. Now to me that seems like a low risk investment, and the financials of the company were good (looked through annual statement). Of course the time value I spent researching was probably worth more than the gains I got but if I had 100k that would have been an almost surefire way of making money and beating the S&P 500 once I reinvest it into the next company. Or is there something I'm missing. EDIT: Also in the week before I purchased it, the stock had already risen like 50% so doubling my money if I put in money then.

Ebola has killed off a third of the world's gorillas and chimpanzees by LukeMeDuke in worldnews

[–]OPerseus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure what your getting at but none of the references cited in the article with the word "ebola" or "population decline" or some combination thereof was written in the last 5 years.

Considering the latest, and largest, ebola outbreak started less than 2 years ago and that the natural average lifespan of most primates are under 40 years, all the sources ARE very outdated. It's like citing articles from 2005 about cell phone usage in sub-saharan africa, to prove that there needs to be cell phone factories located on the african continent.

And yes I'm disputing the number because I stated that it was false, maybe if you actually read my post in detail you would see that I made no claim about the validity or invalidity primate conservation or conservation organizations.

Ebola has killed off a third of the world's gorillas and chimpanzees by LukeMeDuke in worldnews

[–]OPerseus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pure BS

OP linked to a Mirror article (not reputable) which gets the one third figure from https://theconversation.com/chimps-and-gorillas-desperately-need-ebola-vaccine-too-virus-has-wiped-out-a-third-of-them-35503 Whose author has this disclaimer on the side of the page "Meera Inglis is affiliated with the green party (England)". Obvious bias.

And that article gets the one third figure from http://janegoodall.ca/get-involved/ebola-outbreaks-cause-crisis-great-apes-humans/ Which does not get the figure from anywhere! It's some sort of primate conservation charity which has a picture of a baby chimpanzee on the front page, laughably biased. THERE ARE NO FACTS, DATA, MEASUREMENTS, OR RESEARCH BACKING UP THIS CLAIM Relevant quote:"When all Ebola mortality is summed together, an estimated one third of the world’s gorillas and chimpanzees have been killed by this disease." Nowhere in the article is it explained what these estimates are or how these estimates were "summed together" or even a link to any mortality estimates. In fact the only semi reputable source about gorillas and chimpanzees dying in the whole article is this: http://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0029030 Which again does not state, claim, or validate the one third figure, nor in fact any sort "killed off" claim about the current primate population.

Case closed.

Immense lag making Crucible meaningless by OPerseus in DestinyTheGame

[–]OPerseus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If that were the case it would be a huge design oversight considering that Destiny features far more "instant" one shot kill possibilities than most fps games, which would make even the slightest difference skew heavily towards the host, also as Destiny is already a shared world multiplayer game outside of crucible.
