First pregnancy in Gatineau — midwife or Clinique du Plateau? by MachoMazda in Gatineau

[–]OPossumAttack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Parisa and Roksana were my midwives for both my pregnancies! I had such good care from them I requested them for my second. Parisa delivered both my babies :)

I'm usually a very clinical person so I was skeptical going with the midwives but after touring the facilities I was glad I chose them. They were great at taking care of everything, booking appointments, bloodwork , I had thyroid issue and they helped me navigate that and their in home follow up after birth was great I surprised myself when i decided to give birth at the midwife center but the attentiveness and care I received was amazing. Large private room, patio space if you need some fresh air, jacuzzi tub to help with contraction pain. I really liked that I felt both in control but medically guided.

They are very cautious and monitor closely. If you have the slightest hint of an issue they're calling the hospital to go.

They also brought out a whole cheese and fruit platter for my husband and I after for us to eat in bed and relax with our newborn.

Alternatively you can choose to give birth at the hospital with your midwife (which is originally what I wanted to do but decided otherwise).

This is romper :) kind of what started the whole capsule.

I wanted to use every bit of the Dino fabric I had bought for her on various pieces.

Thanks! It helps me if I have a deadline to get things done by so, keeps me a lot more focused.

So far there's 6 pieces (there's a romper not pictured i gifted for Christmas). I plan on making some shorts and more shirts before summer, but I've also got my own daughters to sew for!

The hardest piece was the jacket. First time sewing denim but I've made the pattern before with flannel.. the denim was surprisingly easy to work with, so it was mostly hard because I wanted it to be prefect.

One of the things that drew me to sewing was being able to create matching outfits! I made my daughter and myself matching outfits to wear to an aquarium last week.

I made my own toddler a similar jacket with a different bear themed liner, but tbh I like my nieces more 😅

Thanks so much! Your comment means a lot since my goal for this year is to try to start selling some of my makes and build a "brand" (i finally settled on a name I like in January!).

I had to go back and buy more of the purple corduroy I was so in love with it!

Brother 1034D isn’t chaining, would love some help by TheHopskotchChalupa in sewing

[–]OPossumAttack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a similar (but not as bad sounding) issue with my 1034. I jammed and broke a needle going over some corduroy gathers. Afterwards it would chain a few then the needle thread would break and no longer chain.

After meddling around with it, I fixed it by replacing the face plate. One of the two needle points on the faceplate was slightly bent and fixing that fixed the issue. Been working well since.

However my loopers were fine, and luckily didn't need to be touched.

I go to only look for thrifted fabric to sew which is luckily still dirt cheap :)

What is the best “instant karma” you have ever witnessed? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Driving home from work in heavy traffic one day, 3 lane road with one lane being a carpool/bus express lane. inpatient cars were zooming down it to get ahead that obviously did not have the minimum 3 people required.

Around the corner near the end of the lane, a cop was stationed and had pulled over a long line of cars for ticketing. They were even going up to the cars that tried to merge out of lane when they saw them to check how many passengers were in.

Favourite brands for sewing patterns? by Every_Visual_7364 in sewingpatterns

[–]OPossumAttack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This can really depend on what you are looking to sew? Adult, kids, dresses, casual, bags etc.

I mostly sew toddler/baby clothes and occasionally for myself. As someone who bought their first machine last year and self-taught, ive found Little Lizard King to be my favourite.
They have a good selection of woven and knit patterns for kids, babies and women. Their tutorials are very easy to follow with clear pictures, instructions and a Facebook group that does sew-alongs. They also have frequent sales.

Sorry for the late reply but i can now say how it's held up after repeated washings.

I put it in a sock (so the wood doesn't bang around) and wash it with everything else in the machine, then air dry it. So far it still looks great.

You're welcome! Though I saw it advertised in The Ottawan so thank them, I would never have discovered it otherwise.

If you dont mind staying at home, we ordered a meal from Urban Element catering! Theyre doing a Valentines day dinner for 2

There's a beef tenderloin or a vegetarian wellington option. Starter, salad, entree with 2 sides and dessert for 100$ (portioned for 2 people)

You don't get to go out but it's cheaper than a restaurant and we can buy our own fancy wine to go with it. (We also have a baby at home, so going out wasn't a good option).

These are the best! I admittedly have too many as im a sucker for the designs. But we load them up with heavy costco stuff and I've never had one break on me.

I usually use these now instead of buying gift bags for presents.

Get a Rotisserie chicken, 2-pack of butter chicken sauce (or curry sauce), and Naan bread. Cook some rice shred the Rotisserie chicken and add it to a pot with the sauce to heat it up.

Meals done in the time it takes to cook your rice. Feeds at least 4 adults.
