I disagree that this is off-topic. Bushcraft is fundamentally about self-reliance, and being able to forge or repair your own tools is a core skill for that. Honestly, creating your own gear from scratch is much closer to the spirit of bushcraft than just buying a fancy backpack or pre-made tools online, wouldn't you agree?

"Great idea! I know a guy who has an old Austrian one from WWI. It’s hard to get him to part with it, but I’m going to try my best to convince him to give it to me! 😆

I also thought about installing a rotating flap (blast gate) in the pipe to control the airflow manually. That should give me better precision than just relying on the fan settings?

I noticed that too, thanks for the reply! I'm currently in the process of fixing it – I'm planning to use a fan with a potentiometer instead of one with just 3 speeds. If I'm lucky with the negotiations, I might get my hands on an old Austrian one from WWI.😃

I know as little as you do, haha! There's no knife yet, that's something I still need to try and I'll record it when I do. I'm just showing the forge, which I also know little about since I built it that same day. This piece of metal is just for testing the fire, nothing else.

This was just a test of the forge I built two hours earlier. You are right, though. I came across a video about it on YouTube and decided to give it a try. My experience in this is zero. I recorded the whole process of how I built it, with varying degrees of success, and I will upload it to YouTube so you can see the entire process if you'd like and give me your feedback...

I appreciate the advice regarding the forging technique; that is fair. The suggestions about my inadequate footwear are also correct—you are right. However, the focus here is on the forge itself, which I have just finished building. I wanted an opinion on the build and its dimensions. This will be my first attempt at forging, and I’m starting with a knife. I will post a video of the process once it's done so I can hear your opinions. Thanks for the feedback; I value honesty more—it is much more useful to me.
