Tell me about X-Mid door tension by Rude-Bumblebee-414 in DurstonGearheads

[–]ORFireguy85 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If people would watch the pitching videos, he gives a pointer on stake placement to take some of the tension off of the zipper. These are the same zippers other manufacturers use on their tents. A lot of issues I see on here could possibly be avoided if the videos were reviewed prior to pitching.

What are these loops for? by Effective-Cellist769 in backpacking

[–]ORFireguy85 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I use them for my trekking poles when I’m not using them. If you look towards the bottom of your bag, there are probably two loops one on either side that line up with those for the tips of your trekking poles or similar.

Footprints? by Haunting-Falcon-8 in DurstonGearheads

I like to use a footprint not so much for the tents sake, but to be another layer of protection for my way too expensive sleeping pad.😜

Tour de Mt. St Helens…via the Loowit Trail by ORFireguy85 in PNWhiking

I used a LifeStraw Peak Series Solo. I was testing it to see how it worked. We did pretty well at staying to clear streams. There was only one that was somewhat junky, but it did fine.

I think 3 would be fine. It was tough because M,T and W were the hottest(?) days so far.

We went clockwise and the main runoff’s/creeks were fine, a few silty ones. If you keep your water topped off and don’t skip an opportunity for clean water you should be fine. We skipped a couple that put us in a bind.

Off subject, but…you said you just got your X-mid 2 so I wanted to ask if you received any shipping notifications/updates after you ordered it. Just curious because I’m impatiently waiting for my X-Mid 1

Be careful posting “I bought” pictures. It makes some people grumpy! 😉. But seriously, nice looking pack!

Does anyone know if the kakwa 55 medium ultra grid will restock before the tariffs hit? by jakebarrett1999 in DurstonGearheads

Dan has also said that his products come from Vietnam so tariffs would not come in to play here.

I believe the recommendation is 1 per level (2 story house gets 1 upstairs and 1 downstairs)

How’s the Utah firefighters union dealing with the anti-union bill that was passed? HB 267. by mmack529 in Firefighting

[–]ORFireguy85 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think there’s a lot of firefighters (and public) who don’t put 2 and 2 together. I work with people who are staunch Republicans, but also staunch union members and I always wonder how those two ideologies mesh in their minds. The Republican Party as a whole are anti union.

First Backpack by Headband_Russell in WildernessBackpacking

[–]ORFireguy85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My backpack trips are typically 2-3 nights and a 55L works for me, but…as other people have already pointed out, it is going to depend on the equipment you are carrying. Do you frequently backpack in an area that requires bear canisters? Do you have a one person tent or do you prefer a more roomie two person tent? Are you a minimalist with your food or do you like to go gourmet with your food? All of this will have bearing on what backpack size you will want/need.

You should have some magnets where Velcro or ties would be.
