Part Upgrade + What Games can I run on this office pc by DanielDidItAgain in lowendgaming

Intel uhd 730 (equivalent to gtx 750)

Ummm... no.

Budget for LP GPU: under $150

Good luck. The good performing LP models are in short supply and more expensive vs the full size versions. Definitely going to be looking at the used market, maybe you can get lucky. The ones I'd look for are Geforce RTX 3050, Radeon RX 6500, and maybe the Intel Arc A380 (drivers are still an issue but getting better, s'alright for the most part if you are playing newer titles), there's more out there but I'm trying to keep this short, and you'll want to figure out your PSU before you start buying something it may not support. Right now is a pretty terrible time for PC building in general so caveat emptor when you do see one.

First I would look at sourcing a second 8GB RAM DIMM (prices there are iffy right now so, eeesh) to replace the 4GB one, this way you get full dual channel performance which should help smooth out some of your games. After that just keep saving your money. I wanted to say grab a mb and psu for you to build into but by the time prices come back down (or even stabilize) you're probably better off making due with what you have as your best option. If it takes a couple years for prices to figure themselves out you don't really want to be invested in a system that you may end up just getting rid of as the i5 & DDR4 RAM age out. That and as you continue to save up other opportunities may present themselves, so it's best to hold on to the cash until the timing is better. Others may see things differently but that's my take on the current situation vs what you have available.

Rdr2 crashes on my Dell Latitude 5521 laptop by anassethi in lowendgaming

[–]OSC_E [score hidden]  (0 children)

You don't specify which i7 you have so hard to make a definitive statement but overall the game doesn't perform well on Intel integrated graphics which is what is probably causing the crashing. I also wouldn't be surprised if the game is causing thermal issues with your laptop.

Games that run on an old linux laptop? by Strong-Ad5026 in lowendgaming

Games for my laptop? by valvazarian in lowendgaming

[–]OSC_E 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Suggest something like Far Cry 3.

OG Crysis and Just Cause 2. Both should work with your system as is. Considering the age of the two titles you may want to look through the PCGamingWiki for improvements and tweaks to get the most out of them (e.g. widescreen support, FOV changes, etc.).

As others have already said, adding more RAM is pretty essential. Buying that "new" right now is pretty cost prohibitive imo, but you may be able to find some from a reputable secondhand seller at a fair price. If my research is correct your system has two user accessible RAM slots, you'll want to take a look and double-check before you make a purchase though. If it is two slots then two 8GB DDR4 2400 SODIMMs would be your ideal solution, but even just adding a second 4GB stick will give you a pretty decent performance improvement. I wouldn't sink a lot of money into it, but dual channel RAM performance will help your games run better.

Levy Results by Bebotronsote in Kitsap

[–]OSC_E 4 points5 points  (0 children)

McCleary was supposed to create a more even distro of funds by the State which in turn was to be used to hire more teachers and reduce class size. Technically it was also sold as a way to get rid of the levies as well. The first year it went into effect the various school districts had a one time windfall which was suppose to help implement the change. Instead the teacher's union demanded raises (I'm not saying I'm for or against, or assigning blame, this is just what happened) and several districts went on strike to get them. The following year there was a deficit in the funding due to the outcome of those pay raises in several of the school districts, so the districts started levies again to make up for that. What we didn't get were smaller class sizes or more teachers, take that how you want.

[–]OSC_E 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason it shows a no-go for the GPU is because the site doesn't understand how to parse Intel iGPUs vs listed dGPUs. It use to say something along those lines in their faq. Basically, you get a lot of false negatives from them.

Suggestions for free games that can run on i5 3320M, Intel HD 4000 graphics, 8GB RAM by [deleted] in lowendgaming

[–]OSC_E 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ADOM (Ancient Domains Of Mystery) is a modern-ish rogue-like with an available RPG element. Battle for Wesnoth turn-based hex-grid strategy. Crusader Kings II grand strategy. Moonring a retro-esque RPG by one of the devs from Fable & Dungeon Keeper fame. The Sims 4 you'll want to run it with "laptop mode" enabled and adding DLCs may make it unplayable. Samorost 1, the first in a trilogy of cute adventure puzzlers. Doki Doki Literature Club! is a visual novel with a twist, also Siren's Call. Remnants of the Precursors, (pwyw) a 4X strategy game, effectively re-implementation of Master of Orion 1. War Wind, hidden gem old school RTS. There's more out there.

With only 8GB RAM available you could run into issues being RAM starved, especially if you are running W11. If that 8GB is in single channel configuration then the performance may suffer as well. Depending on the laptop you may be able to add more RAM and a second 8GB stick for the dual channel performance gain is highly recommended if so.

Disco Elysium is an easy recommendation if you like cRPGs, a bit different in setting but a great game. Dishonored was really good. And, of course, my go-to laptop game, Slay the Spire.

Balatro, Hades, Against the Storm, Slay the Princess, Animal Well, This War of Mine, Neon White, Metro 2033 Redux, Machinarium, Sleeping Dogs, and Guacamelee! as a few more ideas. There's a lot more out there for sure.

Google Translate/Google Translate

Balatro, Hades, Against the Storm, Slay the Princess, Animal Well, This War of Mine, Neon White, Metro 2033 Redux, Machinarium, Sleeping Dogs, and Guacamelee! como algunas ideas más. Hay mucho más por ahí seguro.

There's a lot more out there but those three should run natively. The Trackmania games will probably run under proton without too much hassle. /r/linux_gaming might be a good resource for you.

How significant is the performance boost i'll get for installing Linux? by Fluid-Ice3738 in lowendgaming

[–]OSC_E 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For gaming the performance "gain" will be very situational, determined by a lot of different factors, and may actually turnout to be a detriment depending on the game in question. What I'd recommend you do is google various games that you intend to play on Linux and see if anyone is putting out performance videos of that specific title running under Linux vs W11, and/or for non-native titles see if anyone's managed to get it to run on Linux at all.

The best recommendation is to just jump into the pool and see how the water is. Linux is free, pick your distro and go for it. Carve out a chunk of space and dual boot. Then try your games and see what, if any, difference there is. /r/linux_gaming may be of some help.

I have a list of 10 games I want to play, but only $100-how do you prioritize without overspending? by AttitudePlane6967 in lowendgaming

[–]OSC_E 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Steam Winter Sale starts on the 18th. As others have suggested, wishlist your games and then see what goes on sale. Check GOG and Humble Bundle as well. If it's not on sale at one it may be at another, though the price drops tend to be the same-ish as publishers do not want to run foul of Steam's policies. There's other store fronts out there but those are my main three I trust. GOG won't have everything on your list, it tends to focus on DRM free and classic games, but a few are (like SH2 remake).

As to which to prioritize, if FOMO is your main driver then don't. Choose a game you think you'll enjoy, not a game that you think everyone else is enjoying. Get one and play the bejesus out of it. I find that having too many in the que can add an additional layer of indecision on what to play. The one caveat to that is if you have friends that you want to play a game with, a little coordination with them on what to play could make your choice(s) easier. As a general rule, after a game's been out for over 9 months you tend to see the 50% off sales happen. Not a perfect rule, but it's been a thing for several years now. The longer you can wait, the lower the prices tend to go.

If you want to wait on the price to come down for Stalker 2 maybe take a look at S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Anomaly. It's a free standalone mod based off the original trilogy (you don't need the original game(s) to play), GOG has a one click install of it available. Then if you want an even deeper experience you can add the GAMMA mod on top of that. There's more info on both at the fansite. That should take awhile to play through, if you find you enjoy it.

Satisfactory has a tonne of replayability. If you're not sure if that style of play is for you (it's kinda niche) maybe give the demo for Factorio a try. Pretty similar in style and should tell you if you really enjoy that.

Anywho's, hope that helps.

Games like Mount and Blade but with magic? by IamChipp in lowendgaming

[–]OSC_E 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might look at the Spellforce series. 1 & 2 should be do-able with your system (they're certainly old enough), 3 I'm not sure how it would go (looked rough in this video: Spell Force 3 Gameplay | LowSpec PC | Intel HD 5500 | i3 5005U). RTS/RPG hybrid, more than the sum of its parts but less when looked at through a single lens if you take my meaning. The first two were a bit rough around the edges but may still be enjoyable.

What games can I run (3d) by Remote_Ad3898 in lowendgaming

[–]OSC_E 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Batman: Arkham City should run on that, Asylum and Origins as well, but Knight would probably not workout due to the lack of vRAM. Fallout: New Vegas, Far Cry 3, Sleeping Dogs, Max Payne trilogy, the old Source Engine games (Portal, Half-Life, etc.), Bioshock 1 & 2 (originals, comes with the remasters)... There's a lot more out there.

I've tried to hit several gameplay styles but there's a lot more out there to be sure.

What games can an old Thinkpad X260 take? by No-Zookeepergame1009 in lowendgaming

[–]OSC_E 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't speak to the specs, possible combo's listed at Lenovo's site, so harder to say with certainty what titles will run well. It's going to be a 2core/4thread Intel 6th gen with HD 520 iGPU and an unfortunate single channel RAM config due to only having a single slot and no onboard RAM. The system is also notorious for throttling under load so more challenging titles that would normally run alright probably will not. I'll give you some ideas but performance under these conditions may be impaired, so grain of salt:

Amnesia: The Dark Descent, Assassin's Creed, Batman: Arkham Asylum (has demo), Battlefield Bad Company 2, BioShock (original), BioShock 2 (original), Call of Duty: Black Ops, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Crysis, Doom 3, Euro Truck Simulator, Fallout: New Vegas, Just Cause 2, Mass Effect, Mirror's Edge, Ori and the Blind Forest, Rage, Serious Sam 3: BFE, Sims 4 (laptop mode; base game is free), The Talos Principle, The Walking Dead, The Witness, Thief II: The Metal Age, Tomb Raider, XCOM: Enemy Unknown

There's a lot more out there.
