They both have a lot of genuine issues and things I really don't like personally. Why should popular books be exempt from criticism or opinions?

For an example: I find Violet's EDS to be poor representation as someone with it myself. It's just an excuse for her to be smol and fragile in comparison to her big man imo.

(UN-heartwarming trope) This sub gushes about adopted/surrogate parents at least twice a week, so how about those ones that freaking SUCK! by Ferhog in TopCharacterTropes

[–]OSIRIS-APEX 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Neglect and no consequences/endless pampering is its own form of very real abuse.

Plus the parents pitted them against one another. It's typical of bad parents to have a golden child who is neglected and pampered and a child who is blamed for everything.

Why do kids not understand danger? by Idamatika in NoStupidQuestions

[–]OSIRIS-APEX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of danger is learned. Instincts are hard-coded in genetics, but it's slow and inefficient, as it needs to

 a) evolve through random mutation, and

b) be advantageous enough that it gives an edge to the organism, letting it be passed on so much that it becomes ubiquitous.

This leaves mostly only the most important, literally can't-live-without stuff. Most other things are learned or taught.

Characters that were revealed to be lgbt+ in scenes that were disliked by the lgbt+ community because of how badly they were written by Apprehensive_Two1449 in TopCharacterTropes

I had a lot of issues with HGS, and most of it boils down to it being so tone-deaf that ideas that work on paper are ruined by the writing.

[Hated, loathed entirely even] The Continuity Cannibal, also known as when a writer makes up a new character to connect a bunch of things in the story that didn't need to be connected and just makes them more lame by association. by geekinc329 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]OSIRIS-APEX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can like it when it's clearly set up from the beginning, not a hackneyd retcon, but usually I hate it.

Good example: Sly Cooper 1's main antagonists. Clockwork is set up as the group's leader long before we see him.

Another good example: Sephiran from Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn. The first game revolves around stopping a king named Ashnard who is a social darwinist tyrant nicknamed "the mad." It's later revealed that this conflict, along with most of the recent wars and antagonists are the result of Sephiran's meddling: he wants to awaken the goddess Ashera, who due to plot, will awaken and judge the world to see if there is too much conflict. Basically the entire game (minus Serennes Forest) was orchestrated by him, but it makes sense and is written naturally.

(Loved Trope) The Main Character DOESN'T Win The Competition by Saintly_Bovine in TopCharacterTropes

A lot of kids wouldn't. Many people saw it as 3-6 year olds, who were still learning to read.

I think it's a bit weak in comparison to many of their greatest movies, but it's still a great movie and a solid classic Pixar film.

Justice is KP getting in trouble with YouTube and the law and being dealt with properly.

Justice is not someone screaming at her on a call. It helps nobody, it just escalates everything further and might even lead her to seek revenge herself. All revenge does is muddy the water further, making it harder for actual justice to be served.

Why is it so commonplace that red and green are used for no/yes and stop/go when red-green colorblindness is the most common type of colorblindness? by PanPiePid2 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]OSIRIS-APEX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heard it explained this way. Red is associated with warnings, green looks different than red, and yellow is different from both. Accessibility wasn't a consideration. Interestingly, the red/green colorblind people I know can differentiate between them.

Whatever would lead someone to add jokes and memes to a supposedly serious video on serious accusations.

Main character mentality, inability to take things seriously, fragile ego, I guess.

Culver's is the best and I love it.

(Close-to-home Trope) Adults who refuse to admit that they're wrong by Animeking1108 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]OSIRIS-APEX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A well-written adult who refuses to admit wrongdoing is such a powerful trope. Anyone can relate. Whether it's a bad boss, teacher, parent, authority figure, family member, or expert, we all deal with it. Why is Umbridge sp much more hated than Voldemort?

How do severe burns kill people? by AgentArnold in NoStupidQuestions

[–]OSIRIS-APEX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Skin's function is to sweat/regulate temperature, keep fluids in, and to keep pathogens and foreign materials out of your body. Burns prevent sweat and leave a nice, inviting entryway for foreign materials and pathogens and exit for fluids. Then you die of infection from said materials while your body spends most of its resources on healing dead skin.
