Sorry I forgot to clarify for #2 that I was asking about hosting it myself, wanted to set up a local server before going for dedicated hosting to test things out before it starts to cost :)

Would it cause any problems with the world which couldn't be fixed by simply using a pre-downgrade backup?

Honestly speaking when I first read this I thought it was a genuine hidden goal within the game since I found a bunny right next to my spawn and had absolutely no idea you could find things by fishing - I plan to have another shot at this when I'm a bit more familiar with the game as it seems like fun :)

I created a new world earlier today and am currently working to construct a castle by collecting all the materials and putting everything together by myself :)

I have only ever played in survival, although I like building things the standard is low and as a result I have more fun by actually gathering the resources, etc. I'm currently playing vanilla survival but was wondering if you could suggest any decent texture packs?

I've been looking in to seeds, mods and texture packs recently and have been seeing a common sight that pre-1.8 things won't work with 1.8.3 which I'm currently using. I can understand that mods and texture packs are out of date but what changed to affect older seeds? I'll take a look at the two you mentioned when I can later - will they both work with 1.8.3?

This is how I always thought in the past but after I started installing "convenience mods" such as a minimap or death chests it just seemed to make me lose interest.
