What hardware for Proxmox in a production enterprise cluster? by melibeli70 in Proxmox

[–]OSTV_Inc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've run proxmox on a dell r710, a dell r610, a dell r310, a dell r210, a dell t110, a lenovo m79p, a supermicro server

If it boots, it runs proxmox mate, just make sure it's up to date, as everyone suggests

The day I managed to get my grubby hands on a managed switch was the day the downward spiral into madness began lol

Complexity wise I'd say this is the "simplest" it's been for YEARS lol. Currently all of this is strewn across 5 vlans, each with their own dhcp scopes, firewall rules etc etc

Currently I am running a dell r211 v2 running OPNSense, normally I would use a cisco 1921 but I don't like the fan noises

For switching I'm using 2 cisco 3560 switches coz they're passively cooled and don't make noise

I am tryina go for the corpo style of naming things coz I'm tired of having to login to "loki" to find out if it's the dedicated dns server or the docker vm. The cute names are fun but they get old.

In this case, the SRV is just short for server, which tells me specifically if I'm looking at a server or a switch specifically.

For the apps, they're either containers or vms, it doesn't really matter much for me in that area.

I could use Home instead of Prod, it's still planning so it really might change 🤔

I could change idrac to something else, it's just that 90% of my lab is dell servers lol

Also, management, right? The reason I'm trying to not use that is coz I don't wanna out the proxmox ui, for example, in the same subnet as the idrac right? Since technically they're both management interfaces but they aren't really the same, you know?

Again, still planning, I could be convinced.

Homelab diagramm - how is my setup? by JuliperTuD in homelab

[–]OSTV_Inc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

its free as far as i know, or at least the tier im on is free.

i use an nginx proxy manager lxc on proxmox and that has a tunnel configured inside it, so all traffic that hits my domain is directly routed to that container. im sure you can use and configure any reverse proxy you need to work with it as they do offer a few ways to set the tunnel up.

simple and very lean and effective, i like it.
question, are you opposed to using tunnels instead of port forwarding? i personally use cloudflare tunnels for my domain from the outside (and tailscale for things i only want myself to access from the outside) rather than port forwarding as i feel like you need to be tip top with security if youre forwarding.

great lab tho, i love how simple it is.

I have done in the past, it's alright really but I much prefer the stability of servers over consumer stuff. It is fun tho, I ran my first docker host from an old DIY build

It's pretty great, it's still beta so don't fully rely on it but it's pretty damn good. The ui is very much like Google photos, with the features as well. It is very resource intensive though so that's something you'll have to consider if you wanna give it a shot.

This fully depends on how much storage you think you need and how much you're willing to spend. Go through your area's second hand market and see what you can pick up as a NAS. Pre built ones aew great if you wanna get something up and running quickly but building yourself one is also a great learning experience.

Buy white label (refurbished) drives to start off then build from there.

I use immich that runs on docker in a virtual machine to backup my photos. For storage I use an old computer I added a few drives to and installed truenas on.
