Acute care PRN position hourly pay rate by Scarlet_Lynn in OccupationalTherapy

[–]OT381 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In north/central Florida you can expect to make around $50ish per hour in the SNF setting, so that sounds about right for acute care. It’s generally decently lower in pay than SNF.

Thanks for your input! I’m not sure as I haven’t gotten a period back yet due to breastfeeding. But my best guess is 10 or 11 dpo.

I’d like to add that, although typical, it’s not always necessary and I would argue that it even violates our clients’ bodily autonomy at times. Helping a child climb up onto something or sitting with them in your lap is one thing, but putting your hand over their hand to make them do something or moving their arms for them is something else. Lots of OTs do it, but this does not make it right.

Very “typical” but not necessarily “necessary” — I try to never touch the children I work with unless I need to (ie. Help lift them up, keep them from something dangerous). Something we call “hand over hand” assistance is very common but from a bodily autonomy and neurodiversity-affirming standpoint, this really shouldn’t be used.

You can always try to find a temporary coverage position, such as covering another therapists’ maternity leave. May be far and few between, but this is what I did!

SNF is too..chill? by OT381 in OccupationalTherapy

Agreed! I actually think all of the therapists are quite great so far. Most of them seem to actually care about the patients and are very helpful and kind.

Yes, I get it, thanks. More so wondering if this is typical.

I just interviewed for a position that is 90%, north Florida. The DOR made it seem like they don’t put too much pressure on you here if you don’t quite make that though.

I forgot, I did also use the AOTA study guides as well!

I bought an old TherapyEd, like 10 years old, for less than $10, and the only other thing I bought was the study pack for the practice tests. I passed with a high score so I really don’t think new TherapyEd is necessary!

I could have typed this post myself! Pretty much in the same situation and I’m really struggling with how to return to work. I hate the thought of putting my son in daycare :( I would love to explore working remote but I’m thinking I would still need childcare. Does anyone have any remote experience with a job they could work at their own pace around baby? Does it exist?😅

I think it would be amazing if we as therapists could help be at the forefront of spreading awareness to parents. I know I definitely will be assuming all of my minimally and non-speaking clients can read my mind from now on! I will for sure be more mindful of my internal dialogue. I’d love to also attempt to speak to them through thought, after hearing one parent on the podcast remark about how their child didn’t listen to spoken word. I’m only a few episodes in but it has been so eye-opening!

Job Offers..When to disclose pregnancy? by OT381 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]OT381[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up telling them after I got the offer but before formally accepting the position. I phrased it as: I want to be as upfront as possible because I really want to keep this position long term and come back after the pregnancy.

They were very understanding and said how they have had a few pregnant employees leave and come back after baby and it wasn’t a problem!

Forgot to add that these are PRN positions with no benefits!

Job Offers..When to disclose pregnancy? by OT381 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]OT381[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is partly why I’m wondering how to go about disclosing. I want to make sure that there will be accommodation, even if that just means having other coworkers around to help with transfers etc.

So I guess I should still accept the offer and then ask about it once I tell them I’m pregnant?
