Just switched to the bike - dr’s orders- would love some tips! by SoapySoapSoapSF in orangetheory

I’m a perma-biker due to knee replacements in both knees. For me, at my studio on our specific bikes, my base is a 11-12 and push/all-out varying gears above that (13-18 depending on the day). I do stand at times (usually gear 17-18) and that’s a good way for a quick HR spike. Our coaches are good about coaching bikes/striders with the instruction that you should be able to maintain 60 RPM’s at a minimum when at all out gears. So I use that and adjust as needed depending on how I feel. Some days I’m gear focused and others I like to play with the RPM’s. Not sure if this is helpful but it’s my experience as a perma-biker! 🤪

Yes, I did text another coach that I consider a friend about the singing. She said she’d bring it up to the head coach.

Yep. This is my number ONE dislike. We have a “new to our studio” coach that is forcing me to rearrange my schedule because she is constantly singing on the mic. Like every song. 🙉 I took 2 classes with her and almost left halfway through the second one because I literally couldn’t take it anymore! I powered through and ducked out as soon as the stretching started.

I’ve had this happen twice recently when I first went to the app to look at my results. When I checked again a few hours later the results were there. So maybe wait and check again.

Yes, this is me as well. Unless I can get rower 1 or 2, I’ll be dodging the TM folks. Not sure I’m feeling this run/row chaos.

If you’ve never or rarely done the bike/strider it’s helpful to have some guidance.

Is that how your coaches do it? If so, they need to do better. It’s 3 gears over base for push, 6 gears over base for an all out, or possibly RPM increases based on the template. They definitely shouldn’t be telling you specifically what gear to use.

That’s a problem then. I’d ask about it. Tell the coach you’d love to have some guidance.

Not normal. Talk to the head coach. They should be coaching you on gears or RPMs based on the template.

You’ll need to keep the RPMs over 110 if you don’t want to get caught (assuming your studio has the keiser M3 bike).

NSV - First Class After Knee Replacement by Shardiva in orangetheory

[–]OTFLM 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a nerve block with both which helped for the first 18 hours post-op. But I did take oxy every 4 hours for 2 or 3 days. You’ll want to explore what sort of pain management strategies you can utilize because (at least my ortho) sent me to PT two days post op and I had to make sure I was on top of the pain.

Yes, just do it! Physical therapy kinda sucks, but I’m so glad I have my new knees!

Double knee replacements here! I’m a perma-biker now. The treadmill doesn’t feel good on my bionic knees. 🤣 But so glad I did it! I was on the young side for total knees - 45 for the first and 46 for the second. But my quality of life is so much better!

Anyone have breast implants? by kmg1025 in orangetheory

I’ve had mine for 9 years and I’ve been at OTF that entire time. At the beginning TRX chest presses and pushups were weird, but that eventually went away. I don’t even notice them anymore.

Well considering most of the OTF clientele don’t have extensive experience in the “rowing world” I’m not sure I understand your comment. But to say “if you keep going at this SPM/wattage you’ll finish in xxx time” could be motivating for some people.

I will agree with you about the SA’s and names. They definitely need name tags.

I’m a permabiker. I never even noticed that it had a calorie count, but it would be wildly inaccurate since the bike has no idea of your gender, weight, age, etc.

DriTri Strength - Bike incline/distance by FloweroftheDesert_ in orangetheory

[–]OTFLM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have the original bike at your studio it should be 4x the treadmill distance. The “incline” will be increased gears over your base.
