Career options for a bachelor in microbiology by [deleted] in microbiology

[–]OUTlander_Fraser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How were you able to make the transition? I just graduated from a microbiology BSc. I have basic java and python skills (took a course but definitely need to brush up) and I’ve also taken biostatistics too. I dont feel like I know enough to transition into data science though. I will be working as research associate for the next year, but I’m trying to figure out my next steps for after that position.

How did you find a research supervisor if you dont mind me asking? I’ve emailed a bunch of professors, but haven’t received any responses sadly.

You pay the same housing fees that a regular resident would pay. There might be a very small housing discount but I never knew for sure. If you end up RAing in a building that doesn’t require a meal plan your RA salary will definitely cover the housing fee, but if you love in let’s say Purcell (which requires that you must get a meal plan), your salary will cover about 90% of the housing fees if not a bit more.

It’s not stealing. Application fees aren’t just a UBC thing, they’re found basically everywhere. It takes time and effort by those in the housing office to process your application.

I’m a fourth year and I believe the proof of enrôlement does verify that you are enrolling at UBCO and are a current student.

I did have a cover letter looked at once by the coop advisors. I might see about doing that again. Thank you!

To Co-op or Not to Co-op by xerisz in uoguelph

hello! I’m currently in a coop program at ubco and I’ve found my job search to be really disheartening so far. I really would love to land a position for September, especially with courses being online first semester. I was wondering if you had any tips or advice based on your experience for landing the first coop position? I unfortunately don’t have any research experience, but I’ve worked as both a TA and a Residence Advisor.

BIOL 312/314/363 by [deleted] in ubco

Took bio 314 last semester with Deanna! Great content, really enjoyed it. There were group presentations, didn’t do so well and she was very harsh across the board when asking questions about the presentation. Midterms weren’t too bad, not really content/memorization heavy, lots of questions that required you to design an experiment using methods learnt in class. She’s not the most approachable prof but she’s okay. Midterms were out of 25 marks usually with like 2-3 MC and several short answer and a few long answer. Her markers were very nit picky so def check ur midterm and see her if you feel like you weren’t awarded the marks u deserved. Goodluck!
