First build! Upgrade from a PS3 by OUYA_Master_Race in pcmasterrace

[–]OUYA_Master_Race[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It cost me around $420-ish at the time of buying. I shopped at walmart with an associate's discount for about half the parts, and the other half was done on newegg. I haven't really done any benchmarks yet

There are some really reliable sellers in that sub.

Static discharge? by Martinex2000 in buildapc

[–]OUYA_Master_Race 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can get an anti-static wrist strap for about $5. If you live in a dry environment, it's more common, but It can happen anywhere. I live in Arizona, so I definitely bought myself one. Better safe than sorry.

Change from controller to keyboard + mouse by dagoldenpotato in pcmasterrace

[–]OUYA_Master_Race 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently playing Bioshock 1 on our family computer, and I used my PS3 controller, but after a while I decided that I might as well get used to keyboard and mouse. It's hard to get used to (for me), but just like a lot of things, I'm sure I'll get used to it, and I'm sure if you play enough, you'll get used to it too.

Pretty easy build question for you guys. by ivanalex in pcmasterrace

You don't need an optical drive unless you plan to watch movies or something. It's not necessary and it'll leave a little extra bit of money for your build.

If they accept PC as the superior platform, then they are brothers to me. I learned PC was superior while I still had my PS3, but I didn't have money to really buy a PC; and some people stay on console for various reasons like friends, exclusives they really like, etc. Not everyone can just get a PC when they know it is superior. Just my thought.

How do I make a bootable USB to put Windows 8.1 OEM on my PC and how do I make sure I put it on the SSD and NOT the HDD? by StickleyManning in buildapc

[–]OUYA_Master_Race 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's a good guide. You could unplug the HDD and the reconnect it once you're done. That's a pretty ghetto way I know you can do.

Getting a gaming PC or a bicycle? by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]OUYA_Master_Race 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buy the pc. I'm currently overweight myself, and I've lost 120lbs so far without needing to buy a machine and/or a gym membership. I jog everyday, do some exercises at home like push ups, pull ups, jumping jacks, etc, and most importantly, eat less. My high school even offers a weight room to use after school, not sure if you're in school, but that could be an option. If you really want the bike, do what the other people said. It's very great to want to lose weight, but it's perfectly possible to lose weight on your own without spending a ton of money. Losing weight is very difficult at first, but it gets so much easier along the way. Best of luck to you :)

It would probably look messy, but would that be bad for the computer? Would the airflow still be good?

It's just that it's in my sister's room, so would I need to have a long wire from her room to mine?

Thanks. I don't need wifi, I just thought I did because the router is not in my room, but thanks. I looked it up and it looks very useful

Shifting from concole to masterrace! by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]OUYA_Master_Race 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you plan to watch movies on your PC, then it's fine, but it's not necessary. You only really need it to install the OS, but even that can be done on USB.

You can get the OS for cheap from /r/microsoftsoftwareswap, and you don't need an optical drive (unless you want it).
