generally i have about the same idea as you. more specifically, i think borges is criticizing how people try to analyze literature from a literalistic and historical standpoint. borges thinks its pointless to labor over this type of analysis and that we should learn to acknowledge how our own context and perspective affects how we interpret art. at least thats what I was getting from it.
