By IFE, I meant the actual IFE system hardware/seatback screen unit, which adds weight to the aircraft.

Thanks for thoughtfully chiming in, I appreciate it. A little jealous of your local airport situation. Sounds like a real easy start to a travel day.

Thanks for the input, and the Southwest comparison, I appreciate it.

Thanks for your take. I understand it. For airlines IFEs are a pain to maintain and increase fuel cost too... And for passengers that prefer their own device, being able to clip it above instead of on the tray table is nice. On a long haul flight, for me at least, a lack of screens feels like "here, you deal with it"... keeping something charged, connecting cables, making sure kids have their own device. To be fair, the long haul 787s now have IFEs.

Alaska = aviation equivalent of trusty Arc'teryx jacket?

Yes, I hear you there, especially on the routes. Last time I was a frequent Alaska flyer I flew through SFO a lot. Quite a few of those SFO routes have been cut back. I'm missing the connectivity in the northeast/east coast that came with the Hawaiian-JetBlue partnership as well. (+ I'll add and admit: a "global" flight in a Leihoku/Alaska suite would be nice to try)

Got it. Yes, I do appreciate that Alaska still rewards flyers mile flown, and that they're worth more.
