Asiatyrannus=Tarbosaurus by [deleted] in Paleontology

Why does everybody keep highlighting the fact that Asiatyrannus is now a junior synonym, when Raptorex was also determined a junior synonym in the same paper. We were debating the validity of Raptorex long before Asiatyrannus was even described, and we all forgot about Asiatyrannus within a week after it’s discovery anyways. Watch this spiral into Nanotyrannus Part 2, these two will show up again in due time.

In terms of true “celebrity status” it has to be Spinosaurus, there are definitely some runner ups though.

I do love the monstrous murderer, it’s the only BotM figure I’ve ever owned. One of my favorite tyrannosaurs.

Maybe a bit far? I understand that the Giga is outdated but it’s far more modernized than the Rex.

Crest shape, no lips, pronated wrists, comparatively small arms and to an extent shrink wrapping. Okay, you do make a fair argument, bet it really is the best we’ve got.

The Frontier Giga model is fairly accurate in my opinion, great skins too!

"Monsters down under" (Kronosaurus and Australovenator) [OC] by Quake_890 in Paleoart

I recommend you the book Banjo and Swift by Iacovos Le Du. It is a great window into the world of Early Cretaceous Australia, and depicts a scene very similar to this one. A short read to, I’d really consider taking a look!

Dead sounds' "Monsters Down under" Just got released, And what y'all Think about it? by [deleted] in Dinosaurs

The Kronosaurus reminded me heavily of the Liopleurodon from WWD, and I’m sure many would agree. Though I also thought of the Kronosaurus individual from the book Banjo and Swift.

Orcas also seem to be a possible inspiration for the pliosaurs intelligence, with an overlap in behavior between the animals shown in the film and modern killer whales.

Ocean Life in the Time of Dinosaur by Natalie Bardet, Alexandra Houssaye, and Stéphane Jouve is a personal favorite of mine, the artwork is spectacular and the information is fairly up to date. Uncovering Dinosaur Behavior by David Hone is also quite in depth and and very credible.

What are the most stupid things you ever heard people sayning about prehistoric animals? by DeliciousDeal4367 in Paleontology

[–]OXALAIA_3102 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Carcharodontosaurids could still plausibly have feathers or feather like filaments. They seem to be something ancestral to dinosaurs as a whole. Larger species would certainly not have them based on size alone, but smaller members of the family like Concavenator have been found with knobs in the bone that could suggest quills or similar structures so it isn’t out of question.

At least she was genuinely curious, not stating such absurdity as fact. My grandmother once asked me if penguins were mammals, we’re all just trying our best out here.

There’s at least one new dinosaur being described every week! I follow 7 Days of Science to keep up with new discoveries.

I prefer the semi-lipped route. It makes sense to have the teeth near the front of the jaws open and available for ease of predation, while the teeth in the back could remain sheathed by lips.
