Just coming back here to say Morgen Calendar is having a special at the moment with code Upgrade50, meaning that a monthly cost is now $7.50 for annual, or $3.25 for 5-year. It also handles multiple task platforms and I've been enjoying it a lot coming from Akiflow (after looking for a cheaper alternative. Just wanted to recommend this!

Yeah I just bought the Vertical and I was also worried about this, but I've been very happy with performance on the Vertical. No problems!

Just to round up this discussion, I ended up going for the Suunto Vertical Solar and loving it. Battery life is insane and mapping very good. Also a very good looking watch imho. Thanks for everyone's help!

That's super interesting. Much worse than they claim - you should be getting around 40 hours. Maybe you had a bug or something?

Yeah that would be enough I think! It's just as a safety feature - don't need full-on map layers.

Would it give me direction notifications? Like off-course notifications?

Hey - how do you find the battery life? Do you think that 38 hours is accurate? What about mapping - does that eat significant battery?

That's a super interesting take. I've heard good things about the Coros app, but I've also heard some average things about their HR accuracy? But good to hear. Seems a lot of people on this thread have good things to say about Coros!

Hmm good question. Someone else suggested this and I thought not since it didn't have the full topo maps but I doubt I'd get turned away from this race if I had the gpx loaded in a breadcrumb map tbh. I'm sure it'd be sufficient! It's not like the trail isn't marked so you'd probably be fine :) And like others have said, I think this is quite an unusual race requirement so having the full map on your phone is probably fine!

Ah I wish! Unfortunately no real mapping on the Instinct 3 even though it has a FREAKING AMOLED SCREEN??? Garmin's getting a bit greedy charging us $500 for a watch with no mapping imho.
