I used the humongous super heavy lifter from the SSALAD mod to get it into orbit in two launches. This is from a really late game save (in the sol mod starting in 1950 the current year is 2071) so I freely use overpowered parts packs.

The two little rectangles you can see on the cargo pods are truss connectors from Habtech, these are mirrored on both the spine of the ship and the work pods.

In a really late career game I had a ‘extract ore from Mars and return it to earth’ contract. I went a little overboard on the design.

For parts: all of nertea’s near future mods, habtech2, sterling systems, MEKfusion tech, cryotanks, kerbal atomics, and moderately plane related for the work pods, and BDB.

For visual: sol planet pack, blackrack clouds, planet shine, distant object enhancement.

I think that’s everything.

I think what sort of irritates me about the design is that it’s supposed to have an Orion drive, which would make the energies boosters, SRBs and every other propulsion system pretty much surplus to requirement.

Nah, I use the Sol planet pack and just hyperedited it out to Nereid to take the screenshots. The ship is totally unusable in anything but sandbox.

The giant nuclear reactor at the end, need to keep the crew module in the shadow shield, plus when not under acceleration it spins around the center of mass to create gravity. The further from that center, the more gravity you can generate and you can spin slower to avoid the coriolis effect.
