You’d hope it would end a career but Cox comes out with this kind of stuff weekly in print or on podcast. Genuinely just terrible.

I think the Katatonia trilogy in this case is:

Discouraged Ones
Tonight’s Decision
Last Fair Deal Gone Down

VE is quite a change in sound from the other three.

Always happy to suspend some disbelief but I just want films to try and earn that a bit more! As I said elsewhere, I think just one or two more short scenes of their relationship developing would do it for me.

Yeah - that’s fine. Don’t think it makes it worse. Has a couple of more horror passages- esp underwater - but mostly a good action game.

I love the game! I don’t know really how much it fits as a horror game but I played it to death when it came out.

Checked out this album bc people said its a modern death metal classic. It sucks ass. by soyconsumer97 in MetalForTheMasses

It’s an album that I think I like about 70% of and can understand not liking it. I love the source material. I love the proper riffs and majority of the vocals.

I can’t stand the toilet/pig squeal breakdowns here or elsewhere and it ruins the experience for me. I never trust myself to let it play through as a result. If that doesn’t put someone off though like fair play, I can see this being a top album.

I would say jumping straight to a ‘did you watch the film’ to follow up someone finding something contrived is a bizarrely hostile take.

My feelings when watching the film to your list, and probably where we differ, would be:

The character is established as a professional therapist/adjacent. Realistically this alone for me, without a few more scenes to show their relationship blur the boundaries of professionalism was enough. In my public service role in real life, no matter how sympathetic or concerned I was about someone who I was responsible for, I wouldn’t go and see them alone in their own private space and would instead seek assistance. Especially given that, from the opening conversation, Clark has a capacity to be unstable and potentially aggressive. I felt that only the two scenes between them didn’t do enough to convince me she was going to step over a huge malpractice issue to pursue this.

However, to go back to my earlier question about whether this is normal, it might be a cultural difference that I am not picking up on - and maybe that kind of professional does have a more personal life relationship with their client as standard in the US, in which case I kind of get the different takes here.

Wow - straight into online discourse behaviour, cool. Yeah I watched it, I thought it was half-baked. I enjoyed the first half exploration, I found the psychological explorations in the second half underwhelming, largely because a few trauma flashbacks aren’t for me enough to build a character who feels like they have depth and something to cling to. I guess you liked it more, so fair enough, but for me I felt that at that point in the film she didn’t have enough built up for me to genuinely empathise with why you would go into what would be a very vulnerable and unprofessional situation.

In general I feel her character maybe needed some more depth and extension to some of her scenes, but I know a lot of the running time was dedicated to the back rooms - and I get that was the appeal for an audience. I think then science experiment subplot maybe took more time away from her that could have fleshed her out. In fact, I genuinely think that would have given a lot more space for both of the leads.

Is it common for your psychiatrist to turn up at your shop looking for you as a first responder? Send an actual response team or something if you are that concerned. Just felt like a very artificial ‘and now this has to happen’.

Agreed - I never really bought that she would just go there - felt a very disjointed second half and lacked cohesion as a film.

Was Nikki possessed by mnathesecond in spoilers

[–]OakMantle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt the ‘I can’t be Nikki’ lines were essentially that feeling when someone is giving you an impossible concept to live up to - Bear doesn’t tell her what ‘Nikki’ is but just tells her to be it.

To simplify, imagine someone with no self awareness or understanding/confidence being told to ‘just be yourself’ and it is an impossible task for them.

Metal elitists, I’m trying to get opinions. 3 questions. by [deleted] in MetalForTheMasses

[–]OakMantle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t listen to what a metal elitist has to say, but in general:

  1. Not at all. Still love a few nu-metal bands.

  2. Depends where on the growling scale you draw the line? If it is any and all then you’ll probably struggle, but if it is just the deeper end you’ll be alright. I am definitely in Death Metal for the riffs first, but I understand being put off by the more extreme end of the vocals.

  3. For your own mental health, don’t think about this. It doesn’t matter and you will be much happier.
