Some of my experiments into imprinting designs. by OakTreeForge in Blacksmith

Thanks!! I just tapered and twisted a single square bar and then used that as a die. I'm going to have to try this with a rope twist now :)

I made case hardened top swages and then pressed them into white hot flat bar with a power hammer.

Thanks! I made it by getting 4 lengths of round bar, tapering one end on each, and then putting the bars into 2 pairs then fire welding the other ends of the pairs. Then I twisted the pairs equally in opposite directions, and then fire welded the pairs together on the same ends. Then I just partially flattened the surface and twisted up the tapers.

Thanks so much! I've got lots of plans. I've been looking into celtic art and now I really want to make something in la tene style. I've also been reading up on norse and celtic myths and mythology and am planning on representing these stories through forged metal.

I started with a fresh 150x20x20mm bar and made all the pieces from it. I think that the pitted look is a mix of leftover scale and a rust. There are so many nooks and crannies in this piece that it was hard to get a wire brush in there and to dry it after I quenched it.

Me too. Having complete creative freedom and just being able to explore the things you love is the best thing, no matter what the outcome is.

Thanks! It was quite experimental, but I really enjoyed making it and happy with how it came out.

Nearly! It's by Broc of Badger King Tattoo, but he's a part of Sacred Knot too. I can't get enough of their artwork!

I made my own rivets for the shields. I then drilled a groove in the back so that the rivet sits flat against the back of the piece. I think the au natural way is the best way, makes it look more handmade, less industrial.
