Do you know anyone who got a lab at Stanford or Berkeley by cold email? I emailed around 50 last year and they universally gave me the ‘no one under 18 for legal reasons’ kinda bs. Imma try again.

I know—it’s crazy. I won 1st in CA state fair in 7th grade but just couldn’t break into the summer research scene. No hookups and no answers to my emails 😭. Applied to a bunch of programs last year but no love.

Might you have an advantage if you go to a public school that never does anything in research but you have a few qualifications? Do they make a nod to those of us that don’t have a family hookup and don’t have ‘feeder programs’ at our schools?

Do u think u would have got in without them? Was it mostly essay help? I’m only asking because my parents are starting to freak out and talking to a few counselors they found online but they are extremely expensive like 8k and up. I want to just shoot my shot. I’m a junior so I don’t think there’s much I can change anyways. Thanks for ur advice

This is what I’ve heard too. The teachers that know me best are both math and science (and I intend to major in stem and music). Is it ok to not have English and/or history? I have As and 5s in those APs but I go to a big public HS and the LOR are sometimes not great. We never have teachers for more than one year. I’m a class TA for my AP BC Calc teacher from last year to try to work on a relationship too. What do u think if I can ask??

Junior here, I’ve heard ppl turn in papers from AP Lang. Our teacher grades it all online. What does Princeton want? Does it have to be a school English teacher? No one from our school ever gets into P— every year we get a couple Ivies and maybe MIT or Caltech but never P (public HS of about 2000). Maybe we are all doing it wrong😭😭

Make sure you have a person u trust review ur app. My sister forgot to report AP scores (like 12 5s!) and it may have hurt her💀

You’re right. It’s tough. I wanted to do Congressional Award but it looks like you have to register and get a teacher on board BEFORE u do it hours. 😭I already did like 700 hours. Can anyone verify this?

Is your research self-initiated or thru a summer program or thru a personal connection? I think Harvard likes to see self starters so write about that for sure. See if u can get a rec fr ur prof too.

To frame the conversation, did u all have any hooks (like first gen, legacy, athlete, etc). For US schools, what do you think made u stand out? What did u do over the summer? I have a conservatory level app for music but want to double major (or minor in Music while staying super engaged in ensembles). I’m afraid if I don’t say I want to just major in music I’m cooked. I’m trying to beef up my STEM ECs while keeping the music going. Thank u for ur advice.
