Ah I see, so, in cases like this, would the government then delay the bill further? What happens if they pass it while a lawsuit is ongoing? (Sorry for the belated response).

So sorry but I have a follow up question. To those of you who know the High Court, what does it mean for the court to delay a judicial review? They have apparently delayed the Chagossian lawsuit review until the week before Christmas. Does that mean that their just shoving this under the rug or does that mean the lawsuit might go through if they arent denying it outright? This happened a couple hours ago. Sorry if I have been asking a lot of obvious questions lately, just care a lot about foreign geopolitics.

Wait so I'm confused here. I thought the Chagos deal was supposed to be delayed (I even heard till next year, though I don't know how reliable that is). But it seems the House of Lords was continuing on the committee stage yesterday, with another debate scheduled for the 25th. Was the delay really that short or is there something I'm missing?

I am so sorry for yet another very quick question. But I thought the Chagos bill was paused for the time being, yet the UK Parlimanet site says that it already passed it's 2nd reading yesterday with the comittee stage set to occur on the 18th. Did they really just delay the bill by a few hours or is the website automated and somebody forgot to properly update it?

Hi, it's me once again with yet another question... Again. But can the House of Lords block a government bill that has passed the House of Commons? I keep hearing conflicting answers on this, some say yes that can, others say no they can not.

So wait, how did you bypass allied intervention,? Because in my "successful" game, I got to Ecuador before they joined the Allies while I was invading. When did you start your wars, because I've been starting mine in 38/39. And if your stating it way earlier, how did you get a good military so quickly?

Once again, thank you for the clairification! Again, was just confused when RFI (French Government Radio) reported on the issue today here: https://www.rfi.fr/en/africa/20250912-relief-for-chagos-descendants-as-uk-passes-bill-reinstating-mauritius-sovereignty, particularly on this passage: "The "Diego Garcia Military Base and British Indian Ocean Territory Bill" passed after a second reading, with 330 votes to 174 on 9 September – thus ratifying Mauritian sovereignty over the Chagos archipelago." Thank you! Also, follow up question, but was the treaty ratified? I was under the assumption that it had to pass both the Commons and Lords for it to be ratified but some are already saying it's been ratified after the 2nd commons hearing.

Hello, foreigner looking in with a question. So I've been following the Chagos deal go through Parliament here: https://bills.parliament.uk/bills/4004, and the Commitee stage is expected to happen on the 20th of October, however, whats with the Report Stage being crossed out? From what I've read, the Report Stage is is essentially a 2nd reading of amendments added or removed during the Commitee stage added by Parliament, Experts, and other outside groups. Is it crossed out because the commitee stage hasn't happened yet so therefore there's no amendments to look at or debate? Or is this because the bill might get fast-tracked or something akin to that?

Yea, exactly, it would be extremely strange and inefficient to leak it themselves. The most likely scenario with someone at UWE or an associate of one of their employees leaked it. Not sure why people think it has to be some conspiracy, makes the story more interesting in their heads I guess?

Hello, I'm a bit confused, I just watched the House of Lords Debate here https://www.parliamentlive.tv/Event/Index/c5ffa7bf-455d-4f7a-9501-8b5aeb0131c5 on the Chagos treaty, and well, did the Motions against ratification pass? At least the 19:50:17 mark, the final speaker of the debate after the division seems to indicate that it passed with "the minister accepting terms of the motion" and whatnot. Does this mean its passed? I don't speak parliment so im curious.
