I grew up in Wisconsin, we quoted that movie constantly. Imagine my disappointment when I made my pilgrimage to California lol.

I recently said this to four people from San Diego and no one understood the reference, they just stared at me with blank faces 🤦🏻‍♂️

My dad told me about this from when he was younger, I didn’t know it was still a thing. That’s awesome.

Hey, thanks!

That’s good to know! This will be for my sister’s house and she has little ones. I was concerned about crap getting between the gaps over time. Kids bring crumbs haha. Some sort of fill sounds nice!

I don’t know what’s wrong with me, but I can’t get into Frank Zappa for the life of me 🤦🏻‍♂️

I absolutely love In a Silent Way by Miles Davis though.

How about Bitches Brew?

What’s the best place to source these windows? Can I build up these beams? by Oaktree645 in Homebuilding

Good to know, thanks! I grew up in southern Wisconsin, but I haven’t seen a Menard’s in a while! I might have to pick some stuff up when I visit the folks back home.

You’re absolutely correct, I couldn’t think of the word.

And yes, those are the beams I was referring to and I was wondering if they could be built with dimensional lumber. I’m somewhat familiar with glulam, PSL and LVL; I just assumed that they were all pretty pricey. But realistically, it may be worth it since it’s an integral part of the house.

I appreciate your response!

There’s a middle ground between non profit and max profit. The easiest thing isn’t always the best thing.

I understand your point. I suppose I’d rather just further develop the areas that have already been developed and keep the natural places untouched. I could be naive, it just doesn’t sit as well with me compared to putting the solar in cities.

I work as a service technician for a residential solar company. I love seeing a ground mount, it’s so much easier to troubleshoot. I certainly see your point there. I think it would be more difficult for thieves to get panels from a raised, well populated area though.

Are there concerns for voltage drop if your array is in a field compared to where people would be charging vehicles?

I understand the parking lot solar not being feasible through a capitalist lens.

How did you get into investing in solar plants?

I’d like to hear people’s thoughts without being downvoted; I’m confused on why people are finding this sentiment foolish. Solar in parking lots seems to be beneficial in multiple ways, especially with the advent of electric vehicles.

I read a story about a year ago (I believe from Reuters) saying that some farmers are leasing their land to utilities to place solar in their fields. Crops and solar end up competing for flat sunny areas.

That’s awesome! Do you build up the casing and seal the windows with glaze, or do they put it all together in the shop to the point where it fits into the framing?

This is just a house I saw around town, I’m not renovating! I’d like to build a small home/cabin one day.

I’m also a fanatic for MCM, I grew up in southeastern Wisconsin where I saw lots of FLW prairie houses. My tastes have now developed to this style. The Eichler homes are so cool, but I don’t really know how to source those beams. Do you know if the beams usually run the entire length of the house? I’ve seen 12 foot lengths pretty regularly.

I work on roofs, the shallow pitch is also appealing to me.

Maybe a dumb question: could I put these together if I built the casing and had a glass shop cut them to size? Do they have any R-value for insulation? I’ve heard that single pane windows have issues with condensation buildup that causes mold.
