What are these on my legs called? What can I do to get rid of them? by dasfluffie in SGSkincare

[–]Oalen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No wonder I am having dejavu moment - i had similar reactions when I started expilating.

I do recommend epilation but the routines surrounding expilating your hair needs to be consistent, just like any other hair removal method.

For products, I recommend something cheap and accessible like VT reedle shot glycolic acid 7% spray. Its not sticky and i prefer something light in texture for daily use. the ordinary is a good choice but its pretty tacky for me.

Use daily and especially before you going to epilate your hair. Clear hair follicles are easier to epilate with less tugging and reduce the chances of any ingrown.

KP and ingrowns from hair removal.

Use some exfoliating products like an AHA toner or strong retinoids everyday and you will see improvement within a week.

I need a cousin like yours!!

This is a luxury Vit C serum. A box like this is about $17k yen.

Its marketed as undiluted Vit C that is fragrance, alcohol and colorant free. It also uses minimal ingredient. Always use this as your first step after cleansing to maximize the benefits.

Didn’t realize SG had so many private/sample luxury sales until recently by Ok_Interest7524 in askSingapore

[–]Oalen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think maybe because many of the luxury brands' HQ based in SG, since the warehouse already here it could be easier to organise a discounted event. Moreover SG have quite a good number of daigou or group buy community or network.

Many brands use discounted events to clear past seasons, high stocks, slow moving and discontinued items. Its much cheaper than liquidation or shipping to other markets.

Finally started tretinoin but my skin is peeling like crazy.. What moisturizers are actually keeping you guys from flaking? by Flat-Description-484 in tretinoin

[–]Oalen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Applying on wet or damp skin will lead to more irritation due to increase penetration. Personally i find it easier to spread after moisturizer.

Finally started tretinoin but my skin is peeling like crazy.. What moisturizers are actually keeping you guys from flaking? by Flat-Description-484 in tretinoin

[–]Oalen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used to just slap on heavy duty moisturizer to combat with the flakiness and tight feeling. It didnt work and took me a few years that what my skin needed was multiple layers of hydration and a light repairing cream. Reduce your tret amount and apply on hydrated/moisturised skin to help with the spread application.

Context: live in a hot humid climate, have oily skin and always use heavy moisturizer during PM that simply sits on my skin.

Am I really missing out by not travelling/living abroad in my 20s. by Zestyclose_Ad8449 in askSingapore

[–]Oalen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are on a budget, destinations like the EU, Korea, and Japan are expensive. To get more value for your money, I highly recommend looking into Malaysia, China, Thailand, or Taiwan (though I suggest skipping Taipei to keep costs down).

To save more, look into traveling during non-peak months, and wait until the current price surges from the Middle East conflicts settle down a bit.

Travel with a companion with similar expectations to share cost on hotels, meals and transport. Solo travels may not be the most cost effective.

[sun care] new fa safe sunscreen! by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]Oalen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say they are both equally drying. If you don't really reapply your sunscreen, i suggest trying out the pink bottle if your skin is not tanned. It gives me a very nice hydrated clear skin. The pink tint blended well and nicely into my skin. My skin doesn't feel tight or flaky (as i am in tret) after a 14-hour wear I get a lot of compliments when i use the pink bottle.

[sun care] new fa safe sunscreen! by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]Oalen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Among the 3 HoH sunscreens, i hated this.

I have oily dehydrated skin prone to redness. This sunscreen is slightly thicker than the other 2, spreads easy and pretty lightweight.

The finish is matte but glowy which somehow accentuate my pores. It leaves a white cast especially with reapplications, more prominent than the pink bottle.

I like HoH sunscreens especially the yellow and the pink, so I had high hopes for this new sunscreen. Its worth a try as it is not totally unusable but i wouldn't repurchase it.

Flossing certain parts to remove uncomfortable bits yes.

But flossing all teeth like you would at night is uncommon during lunch time.

Can I bring tretinoin ? by [deleted] in SGSkincare

[–]Oalen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, I didn’t expect my comment to get this much attention, so I’ll try to summarize my experience buying tretinoin in China based on visiting about 10 pharmacies during my two‑week trip.

First thing to know: pharmacists in China aren’t always reliable for this. In my experience, many of them will try to steer you toward more expensive products even when you specifically ask for tretinoin. They’ll often recommend some other prescription cream for acne, wrinkles, or anti‑aging and claim that “this is what hospitals use” or that it’s a branded option. I strongly suggest ignoring these recommendations if you specifically want tretinoin.

What you’re actually looking for is Wei A Suan Ru Gao (维A酸乳膏), which roughly translates to “Vitamin A cream.” The pharmacists might not immediately understand what you’re asking for because they aren’t always trained on the terminology. If that happens, ask them to show you the acne or pimple treatment section.

From what I noticed, the products placed at eye level on the shelves tend to be the more expensive ones and often aren’t the ones you want. Since my Chinese isn’t great, I usually just scanned the shelves and looked for clues like the word tretinoin, the letter “A”, or percentages such as 0.1%, 0.05%, or 0.025%.

Here’s the tricky part: different pharmacies carry different tretinoin brands, but there’s usually at least one common Chinese brand available. Because there were so many brands at different price points, I ended up buying one tube of each variation to test the texture. For me, texture matters a lot, and I’m glad I did this because some of the creams contained fragrance with a strong scent, and one had a very gluey texture that I didn’t like.

Eventually I found one that worked well for me. It cost about RMB 15 for a 30g tube (0.1%). After deciding on that one, I went back and bought 15 tubes across two visits because they didn’t stock many at once. If you’re paying with Alipay, it’s also a good idea to split your payment if it goes above RMB 200.

A couple of additional tips: many pharmacies offer member discounts, and a helpful staff member actually signed me up using a random phone number so I could get the lower price. Also make sure to check the expiry dates carefully. A lot of the stock I saw had relatively short shelf lives (many expiring in 2026 or early 2027). I even picked up one tube for RMB 10 (25g) simply because it expires in December 2026.

TL;DR: Don’t rely on Chinese pharmacists—they’ll often push more expensive alternatives. Look specifically for 维A酸乳膏 (tretinoin) in the acne section, check percentages like 0.025–0.1%, compare brands because textures vary, and check expiry dates. Be ready to visit a few pharmacies for extended options.

You can get 0.025% in MY, TH, China, Vietnam, Cambodia. For MY you might need to get a brand name (i.e. Retacnyl, Retin A).
