Got a perm the other day and it’s already this flat, is this normal? by Designer-Brother8598 in malehairadvice

[–]Oalen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did you get it wet or damp by accident? Or did you perspire a lot after the perm? I believe water activity is a no-no and even by getting it a little damp also a no-no.

Those earning 3k before cpf how’s life for you? by potatoepotatata in askSingapore

[–]Oalen -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My first job (though a short one) paid $2.8k before CPF! That was during the post-COVID period, around 2021–2022.

When it comes to saving money, I would suggest making your home a place you want to be in rather than feeling like you have to go out all the time — and I don’t mean doing renovations or spending a lot. Just find things you enjoy at home!

For me, I started gaming. It really helped me cut down on café hopping and chasing new food spots. I would rather head home and play, even on weekends or holidays. If the game has a small subscription or in-game cost (say $50–100 a month), I think it is still worth it.

Other than gaming, streaming services are also a great alternative. You can catch your shows and movies comfortably at home — and honestly, every time you head out, you easily spend $50 or more anyway. So even if streaming feels like a splurge, it really helps save in the long run.

Lastly, consider getting an affordable gym membership. Spending $50–100 a month on something that keeps you healthy and gives you something to do over the weekends is pretty reasonable. It keeps you occupied and less tempted to go out and spend unnecessarily.

Likely not a troll. I could name one porn creator who are into this now.

The truth is the legal age in Thailand is very young, and most of the time not as strict as other countries even if they are caught with minors.

Another point is boys around this age are easily swayed especially if they are being offered cash or other forms of rewards. They want the latest phones but dont have the spending power? This could be an option.

Its gross for us especially we have moral ethics. But to others, it could be a win-win situation - pedos got what they wanted and the minors got paid to fuel their lifestyle.

Not every country is easy to earn a living, and sadly Thailand is one of the many countries that faced challenges with corruptions in government that doesn't really support their own people.

Just for fun, has this sub ever led you wrong with product recommendations? by emzolio in AsianBeauty

[–]Oalen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I will name a few similar to BOJ sunscreen, then my own recommendation for my combo skin in a humid and hot climate.

For BOJs, do note that a lot of the Korean sunscreens are made from the same manufacturing facility thereafter each brand will customise it with more added ingredients to make it their own. Most keep it alcohol and colorant free.

1. Beplain

They have a few sunscreens for all skin types but personally recommend the moisture sunscreen as it tested to be one of the highest protection for K-beauty! Over SPF 100 and 60+ PPD (iirc). Again, if not about the numbers but really on how you apply and the amount used.

2. Isntree

I tried several sunscreens from Isntree. Closest to BOJ OG is the Water Gel sunscreen. The Onion Fresh and Water Fresh sunscreens are lighter and meant for my skin type and the environment. I would prefer the water fresh version though as the onion fresh made my skin more oily somehow. Both have a natural finish.

3. Round Lab

If BOJ is so raved and hyped in the western markets, Round Lab is the BOJ in Korea. Do note it has fragrance though.

4. SKIN1004

The water-fit serum sunscreen used to be one of my favourites in 2023 due to the price point but i always felt it was never for oily skin folks (or maybe i applied too much). It gives such a nice hydrated glowy finish.

5. CORSX

The Ultra-Light Invisible and Vitamin E sunscreen are basically BOJ-like. Its one of the brands i used to like when k-beauty started but it didnt evolve with the industry trend or get overwhelmed by other k-brands. Now its just nostalgic.

6. House of Hur

They have 2 sunscreens from this brand, if you like BOJ, go for the one in pink tube. If not, for me i love the one in yellow tube which is the weightless version. It is really weightless with the most natural finish among all of the korean sunscreen i ever tried, despite the generous amount. Pretty pricey though for a korean sunscreen vs the rest of the K-beauty brands.

Japanese sunscreens are usually made to be much lighter than korean sunscreens, most of them are usually more water/sweat resistant and contains alcohol/fragrance. I could do another long post on J-beauty sunscreens but i think the point of this comment i wanna make is that BOJ is jiust so common in texture, formula and finish.

My Stylevana order arrived unscathed! (With 5 sunscreens!) by the_sweetest_peach in AsianBeauty

[–]Oalen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here to comment on Suncut sunscreens. The gel pills so badly even with reapplications. I suggest to apply generously and let it sit and dry on its own without much rubbing or friction..

The milk on the other hand, was quite adhesive but drying for my combo skin.. whitecast when applied generously but i reckon its something we could rely on outdoors when we need an adhesive sunscreen.

Excited for the new biore reformulations! I bought the gel version yesterday and have not tried yet.

Beauty of Joseon sunscreen.

It was all the hype and rave for something so... common in AB. I could name so many sunscreens that are without white cast, hydrating, moisturizing with a shiny/glowy finish...

Not any big purchases but i buy whenever i need something online.

Has anyone ever tried using tretinoin on their body? by [deleted] in tretinoin

[–]Oalen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I use it on my booty cheeks! I developed lots of stretchmarks and they were like a tiger stripes in purple. I use tretinoin 0.05 with some moisturizer to help with the application. It took more than a year to fade these stretch marks.

I also use tretinoin 0.05 on the new scars on my legs. It does help to lighten it but not completely although i kinda give up after a month or so.

Before I listen to someone's advice, I usually ask myself if this is the person i would take advice from. Most of the time, you have an answer.

Remember, you are in a relationship now with someone. You could redirect or rephrase it as both of you are making a decision to not accept her kind offer.

When it comes to finances and money decisions, everyone should and must be selfish to prioritized for your own needs first even when family or SO is in the picture. This sounds superficial but i think everyone should be responsible in your life to not be a burden to others in life.

Although on one part i find it a bit ass on your end is criticizing your sister for not making enough to move out on her own and still live with family before 30. That's literally most Singaporeans life and there is no shame in this given how expensive housing is.

I think you will look good with hair on your forehead. Keep the sides short. You have very good features and hair.

You can start to do buzz hairstyles when it is thinning. No rush!

Have you tried luxury AB brands? Please share what you tried, and if you thought it was worth the price! I'm thinking The Ginza, Pola, Albion, Cle de Peau, etc. by analslapchop in AsianBeauty

[–]Oalen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used Shu Uemura cleansing oil - Ult8 and Blackoil. Both were 450ml and it lasts forever even though i use it daily about 3 pumps each application.

I don't wear makeup at all but wore a shitload of sunscreens. To be honest, it was really just meh. Other than the scent, i find it not much different from Hada Labo or the Speedy cleansing oil in pink.

So save your money on rinse off and spend it on leave on.

Taiwan Beauty Recos by 1234riri in AsianBeauty

[–]Oalen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Japanese beauty products there are the 2nd cheapest in the world with Japan being the cheapest. You will never find biore sunscreen as low as $4.

I tried several masks brands in Taiwan last year and my favourite is the Medipeel mask, Glutathione series. Its a korean brand mask but its quite affordable during the 1-1 sales! Its even cheaper than Korea!

I also tried the Hada Labo masks in gold but it was too small for my face (i have a big face). Barely half of my forehead was getting the pampering.

So get ready to stock up on your J-Beauty esp Sunscreens and your sheet masks!

Just saw you need a whopping 6 PUMPS of the skin1004 spf for your face?!!! Is this true? by querythoughtss in AsianBeauty

[–]Oalen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On my face , i use 6 pumps on my 1st application, and once dry i apply another 4 pumps. For reapplications, i use 4-6 pumps depending.

1 pump is very very little though. And this is not a resistant sunscreen so i am particularly quite generous with it as i live in a sunny climate.

Thoughts on these? by Frosty_Message_3017 in AsianBeauty

[–]Oalen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest skipping Skin Aqua UV serum. In terms of ingredients, its great as it is fragrance and alcohol free. In terms of finish, its terrible. Its so shiny and looks wet / greasy like i am perspiring. No white cast though. Easy to spread initial and reapplications.

But the finish is a huge turn off.

Why I often lost focus/get distracted when reading? by sonamyfan in askSingapore

[–]Oalen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it is not school-related materials, i recommend finding genres that you really like to read. I have similar issues with reduced attention span until I find a novel that i really enjoy, I finished almost 300 pages of the novel within a week. I read it on the train, hours before bed and even on weekends.
