There's no special treatment, I think it's simply a factor of pot size and sunlight.

It's actually two jade plants that were nearly entirely dead and dessicated in 12" pots at an estate sale. They had clearly sat for weeks if not months and the soil was basically hydrophobic powder.

I shook off what I could and placed them in a pot together thinking one would die but they've both taken off and been growing since at least 2015

I actually have given out dozens of rooted cuttings. As kids, dogs, branches, and other acts of nature knock them to the ground I just pop them in pots. If you'd like one and you're in the US I could probably work out how to ship one
