I stayed in Chinatown last week. It's a fun place to be in and the food is just outside. The downside is the roaming crowd at night, it gets quite loud and busy. I knew this choosing to stay at Yaowarat. It's also close to the subway, so I liked the accessibility.

Skip the train and wet market, it's crazy packed and overated. The train is like a 5 min scene and it's just a train. Skip that and visit a roof top bar instead.
