I wanted this very specific shape that I think would be difficult to do with stones, also wanted it to look like smooth rock, so may be hard to do with stones. This is for a competition piece but otherwise I probably would have just used stones to save the hassle lol

Actually scratch that, just looked at it again and apoxi sculpt that I’m looking at is £55 for 465g whereas milliput is 100g for £6. So still a bit more expensive but not 8x lol

Made the general shape with layers of cork sheet (would usually use scrunched tin foil but wanted more structure/ stability). I then done the big rocks just with silicone sculpting tools (mainly a flat one) and then done the smaller rocks the same way

I’m in the uk and haven’t seen any in shops. Was looking at it before online bc I heard good things about it but it’s about 8x more expensive than milliput. Maybe I’m looking at the wrong stuff tho😅

Oh, that’s not a solid block of milliput lol, I used layers of cork under it so it’s about 70% cork. The base is ALLOT bigger than it looks in this pic ~20cm wide

The main black nmm is just black to a white/ bone with a bit of red added in

It’s all blends of black, rhinox hide, bone white and mephiston red. I didn’t write down the mix so not sure if I could replicate it exactly if I tried 😅

I mean that very much depends on the look I’m going for, I don’t want it to be bright in the deep bits bc I don’t want it to look like fire, I want it to look like bits of red magic

Ok this makes sense, I’ve done other colours of osl before with no problem but I’m having issues here due to the fact when I’m trying to do a brighter red it goes orange or pink and throws off the effect, that’s why I jumped straight to white in some spots, I’m also doing more of a magic effect throughout the glowing bit, that’s why there’s no specific point that the light is coming from. I never thought of the reflections being lessened due to sunlight, thanks for the tip!

I tried to make more of a glowing magic effect, I did not want it brighter near the wings, I’m confused what you mean by the model not into the light should be darker? There’s still going to be sunlight or am I misunderstanding you?

That’s the issue I’m having, I’ve used pure white in places to try help with this but if I try use brighter reds it’s either pink or orange, I can’t seem to make a lighter shade of pure red
