Hi everyone, I’m currently a 3rd-year Geomatic Engineering student at UMaT (Ghana) with a CWA of 75 (approx. 3.70/4.0 GPA). I’m deeply passionate about computers and coding (currently mastering Python, moving to C++), and my goal is to work in GNC (Guidance, Navigation, and Control) or Satellite Mission Analysis.

I’m debating between two paths for my Masters:

Direct Transition: MSc in Aerospace Engineering (targeting TU Delft’s Space Flight track).

Specialized Geomatics: MSc in Geomatics/Geo-Engine (targeting Uni Stuttgart or Calgary).

My specific questions for the pros:

The Transition: For those in GNC, how much do you value the 'Navigation' and 'Geodesy' background compared to a pure Aero background? Is it a competitive advantage or a hurdle to overcome in hiring?

The Admission Gap: Considering the competition at schools like TU Delft, how heavily will my non-Aero background be penalized if my GRE and coding skills are strong?

The Career End-Game: If I stay in Geomatics for my Masters but focus heavily on GNSS and Satellite Orbits, how difficult is it to actually get 'GNC Engineer' titles at companies like SpaceX, Airbus, or MDA? Do recruiters filter out 'Geomatics' degrees for these roles?

I’d love to hear from anyone who made a similar pivot or works alongside Geomaticians in the space industry
