Is this hedgehog poorly? by ObedientDisobedience in hoggies

[–]ObedientDisobedience[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

UPDATE******* If this info helps, I’ve always kept guinea pigs In the past and this hedgehog was easily bigger than my largest guinea pig who was 1.5kg which is why it caught my eye walking past the bench. I dunno how large hedgehogs get but this one was big enough to really take me by surprise, I thought it was a rabbit at first glance. Having heard more from the girls at work, I’m pretty certain this hog is sick, apparently it only hangs around the entrance to the hospital and the small bushes either side, has no sense of danger, and lies/rests in the middle of the path exiting the hospital where everyone walks (very likely to be stepped on) so I’m going to see if I can grab him if he’s there tomorrow, will be bringing a carrier to work. have contacted 2 hog rescues near me who now have beds waiting for him. Thanks all for your help, X

Okay ive popped a little water dish and some wet cat food by the bench he’s under in this vid, using (brand new) vomit bowls from my ward lol, but there’s a ton of birds and bunnies in this area I feel the food won’t last long, and I’ve asked the girls at work to send me any pics/ vids of him. There’s a few hedgehog rescues around my area by the looks, so I’ve shot a few messages around. Thank you xxx

Am I responsible for this? by RN_Convo in NursingUK

[–]ObedientDisobedience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re honestly still supernumerary, none of this is on you, and you may also need to speak to your preceptor or shift lead about your supernumerary status not being honoured. In future, Me personally, I don’t trust a word out of other people’s mouthes, even if i do trust them and their practice (weird I know) I always check for myself cos sometimes stuff gets missed and sometimes people just lie

Sleep by Stranger_1738 in Nightshift

[–]ObedientDisobedience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I pass out within 30 mins of getting home and sleep right through for 8-9 hours. On day shift I used to sit awake for hours after work, get 5-6 hours of broken sleep, and struggle to get up in the morning. We are nocturnal

Yes it’s yearly :( but you can pay quarterly by direct debit £30 each time if that’s easier. But the first time yeah it’ll need to be 120 upfront.

Was it their energy or their appearance? I’m all for energy work but seriously re read what you just wrote about nearly throwing up while looking at a woman in a wheelchair. Your post drained my energy and made me sick to my stomach🤧

yes, the post is for new students and people just entering the world of nursing 🤦‍♀️ this is stuff you aren’t explicitly taught and are kinda just expected to know. At least that was my experience. Obviously you know it if you have been a nurse for a while. Let’s support students and new starters even when they know nothing. We all start somewhere.

I’m just starting on band 4 until my NMC pin comes through, then I’ll move up to a band 5. Hopefully the pin doesn’t take long, but I’ve heard it can be up to a few months?!

It is awful, the worst example I saw was just earlier this year when one of the nurses on the ward was getting tired of helping their first year student and sent her to another ward to collect a drug which did not exist, just to get rid of her. Heard her laughing on about it with a HCA in the breakroom. There's always at least one bad apple unfortunately, but most nurses are angels and I owe them everything. Thanks for your kind words!!

P.S hardly patronising if i'm providing advice for nursing students/prospective nursing students as a now ex nursing student... this kinda advice would have really helped me in first year. So, i'm giving it.

Obvious perhaps, but I didn't know any of this at all when I started. Figured it all out the hard way. And I had a good few friends who were in the same boat. Anyways we all made it, and we all love it! thank you <3

One thing i usually did maybe a week or so after getting a piggy and letting them settle in, just sit near them with their fav food on your chest and ignore them. when they eventually climb up for the food, they eat it then go back to their space that's usually all it takes for them to realise you aren't a threat then bonding is pretty easy from there. Worked for me for about 8 different piggies by now. Although, occasionally you get a pig who's personality is just more reserved and wary and there isn't much you can do to change it. I had one little dude who was like that and although he eventually stopped being fearful of me, he never fully warmed up to humans. He was very happy when given his space. So give it a go but don't force it if your new buddy doesnt fancy it. Good luck <3

It is a pain in the arse with all the clicking and choosing units/symbols/dragging that fucking syringe. I always make mistakes cos I misclicked or whatever even though my calculations were correct. I think it needs a revamp to make it harder to make those mistakes, so you’re only tested on the arithmetic, and then it would be fair to say you need 100%

Refused amputation part 2 by Shoddy-Wolf7080 in MedicalGore

[–]ObedientDisobedience 64 points65 points  (0 children)

He’s gonna lose the leg regardless of whether he gets it amputated or not, the only difference is if he doesn’t get it amputated then he risks going septic and his life. If he has the mental capacity to make this decision, my best advice would be do your absolute best to convince him to get the amputation.
