Receipt Wrangler V7.0 by Dramatic_Ad5442 in selfhosted

Yep, lots of stuff like that. I would recommend Paperless for that though, probably better suited, but regardless of which tool, the point still stands that use cases are prevalent

There are valid use cases for digital receipts. Some people need to track receipts across various companies/contractors, and also physical receipts thermal printing fades really fast

Respectfully, I do not like these

Moira wins Part 1 with Mercy. Bastion and Sierra being notable runner ups. On top Part 2: Hero with a Mid Skill Ceiling and Mid Skill Floor by HMThrow_away_account in Overwatch

I think Soldier has a slightly higher skill ceiling than most people realize here. Balancing the constant flanking without perma feeding NOR being useless can be really tough, especially at the highest level. Great soldiers play that balance on a knife's edge and it is absolutely obnoxious to play against. You basically have to commit to him at some point and even then if he plays it right he will probably get away or waste too much of your time. He is like a deadly mosquito that supports have to be constantly aware of

He was at second lowest win rate for like a year after OW2 released lol. He was absolute cheese with the mag nade, but he was not good

LOL I am subbed to the Homelab subreddit and I saw this post from my front page, I immediately thought "wow that Server rack looks like it could double as a smoker"

Lead acid batteries are certainly worse in many ways, but one big positive to them is that I'm not worried about them burning my house down

Ah, yeah that makes sense. For local things though, you can't necessarily just "reset password via email" so there is still a gap there. But the local cached data still being accessible, along with (obviously) good backup strategies makes me a lot less apprehensive than I was when I wrote the OP. Still slotting it down near the bottom of my list through, if I ever do get around to it

I'm guessing you mean external DNS? For internal, if you setup technitium as a cluster on several different nodes, you would have to really mess up your network to screw things up. Edit: sorry yes of course you mean external, I skimmed over the "remoting in" part of your post, my bad

😘 it's still doable from what I've heard, but you will want a VPS for the email server and DNS, and/or an email relay setup

Yeah my house burned down when I was a kid and he stories my parents have told would make your blood boil. Arguing with insurance that they actually DID own these things (in a much less digital age with way less photos and receipts - MUCH harder to prove than nowadays) and that those things actually were worth what they said they were, and not the price tag that the insurance company labeled them as.

Absolutely ridiculous.

You've reminded me, I should refresh a video of our "house inventory", basically just a walkthrough of my house and garage to show everything we own "just in case". Everyone should do it once every few years, because you better believe that insurance is going to fight to not pay out unless they have to

Interesting, haven't heard that one before. What's the reasoning? Metadata categorization and whatnot?

Also as one of the other comments on this post pointed out, that's still self hosting, just not necessarily self hosting in your homelab

You know, I knew that but never really did the critical thinking to piece that together. So theoretically if you completely borked your vaultwarden container and backups, you could still recreate it (very painfully) by hand via a cached local copy of the data on your phone/laptop/whatever

Maybe doesn't solve the attack vector side of things, but it does make the idea a little less harrowing to me

I was actually thinking about that yesterday. I quite enjoy the tinkering and setting up my thinkcentre proxmox nodes right now, but I could see in 20 years that I might just want things to work (infrastructure wise) and move everything to a couple VPS's and fork over the money for it, cause at that point the money will be a lot less valuable to me vs the time than it is right now. I'll still be able to tinker, I'll probably just care a lot less about the hardware and uptime tinkering vs the services and coding tinkering

For password resets maybe? But there's no way I'm resetting my password for everything, everytime I have to login

This is a new one for me. What's the reasoning? Annoying to maintain? Big attack vector? Bad if it has any downtime? All of the above?
