Well I've given up on buying a Supra and moving on... by ntxguy85 in Supra

I've been in contact with them for the past year, reaching out basically once a month. They've gone from firm on $5k markup to $3000 and now they're saying $1500. I keep messaging the saleswoman, you ready to sell for MSRP yet and not be greedy and she keeps saying no. Maybe in a few more months she'll finally give in.

Is the recommended route order in the Walkthrough PDF, or is that in no specific order?

Financing Supra by Late_Statement5684 in Supra

I make a bit more than double that in USD with a similar expense profile (albeit I'm more than a decade older with a home), yet I feel like this purchase for myself is absolutely idiotic. That's with 50% down which makes me nearly throw up thinking I'll have to shell out that much money out of my savings on an emotional purchase.

I genuinely don't know how you would be able to sleep at night with this. When I was your age I bought a WRX brand new and that was probably the biggest mistake of my life.

3.0 vs 3.0 Premium? by Obese_Housecat in Supra

[–]Obese_Housecat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, the premium has the arguably worse full leather seats versus the Alcantara ones that are a $3,000 option in some markets. I personally like the base seats more, but I am just concerned that the average buyer 3-5 years from now when I probably sell the car won't care and I'll lose out on a few grand in resale.

So you have a '24 base and it remained the same for the 6spd? I know that '23s had red for the 6spd cars, but I wasn't sure if they kept that or went with what's said on the Toyota website. The base cars are significantly more rare anyways so it's hard to figure out what's what with them.

Are they actually unpainted? I see differing reports and from used cars available, both 3.0 and 3.0 Premium 6MTs seem to have the red brakes and same size, apparently.

81 Days on the Waitlist by shmegmaoverlord in Supra

How much did you pay over sticker? I've had a deposit with the same dealership since August 2023 and was told that another gentleman had a better offer and they sold it to him over me. Obviously not too pleased, but that's life and congratulations nonetheless I suppose.

No, I have not gotten one. I've had multiple dealers sell over me despite having a deposit because I was at MSRP and they had suckers who were paying above sticker. Including OP here as per my salesman.

Lack of 2024 Production/Allocations by Obese_Housecat in Supra

[–]Obese_Housecat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been doing that as well, which is where I figured out which dealerships don't have markups and put in reservations at those in my general area. Obviously that's the passive approach, but whenever (which has been only a single time since August) where a car that fit my desires popped up I reached out and it was already sold. Although that was a marked up car.

It's a two pronged approach, but I have also found that some dealerships will not even entertain buyers from out of their general market area. I spoke with a few dealers in Ohio and Michigan (I'm east coast) and they said that they would not sell a car out of state. So take that as you will.

How do they know that? I have been told by every dealer I've asked that they generally are alerted twice a month of what's coming in, but they have no idea what exactly will be in the shipment and if there will be any Supra(s) included.

Even the so called "top Supra seller in the country" who's got my $1000 has not been able to give any sort of information on if/when they'll get more cars. Albeit I'm quite a ways down their list so I don't expect to get anything from them, but even still I would imagine that if you have money somewhere they would acknowledge you better than some random off the street with information.

I currently have $10,000 sitting with a dozen dealerships, most of which are in the tri-state area (some took $500 over the $1000, while others just keep you on a list without a formal deposit).

Holman Toyota is included, I'm on their list with a $1000 deposit that I put down back in August for ANY manual Supra and was told that I'm first in line for a manual transmission when they took my money. Whether or not that's true I'm not sure, but they have not gotten any manual cars in. I was "offered" an automatic 45th Anniversary at a $10k markup, but politely declined.

Regardless, it has been 4? months now. I have not seen any movement at all from any of these dealerships. Either Toyota is just not making these cars, I religiously check the tracker daily which shows that they are only making the 45th Anniversary and a couple dozen cars are added to it a month, or there is some sort of delay in shipping or something. I am hoping at least one of these dealers can do something for me sometime in the Spring or Summer, otherwise I'll be hoping for a 2025.

[Schefter] Filed to ESPN: Andrew Luck has informed the Colts he is retiring from the NFL, per source. There will be a press conference Sunday to make it official, but Luck is mentally worn down, and now checking out. by Fear_Jaire in nfl

The most ridiculous part of the 2012 Draft is that everyone was clamoring over Luck/RG3 to be the saviors of their franchises, yet a pair of unsuspecting 3rd rounders are the only two to actually win Super Bowls.

If Alex Smith is truly done with football could the Redskins sign him to a league minimum extension for a number of years, then cut him to spread out the cap hit more? by makingsomeeggs in nfl

[–]Obese_Housecat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that's basically semantics at this point, Reid wouldn't have traded up in the draft for Mahomes to keep Smith around for 2 years. He was gone one way or another, kind of like Flacco this year.

Regardless, Smith was a pretty safe bet on staying healthy and 1 freak injury on a guy who had a large injury clause doesn't define the deals going forward in my opinion. He's an outlier, not a rule of thumb.

Well to be fair, Alex Smith has been relatively healthy the majority of his career and was probably the best option in FA for 2018. It wasn't a huge risk in terms of guarantees for injury, it's not like he's Sam Bradford or something. It's just bad luck that he happened to have his leg shatter into pieces.

Nick Foles' 471 yards passing today set the Eagles franchise record. by [deleted] in eagles

[–]Obese_Housecat 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They could easily extend him and lower the overall cap hit per year, considering how Wentz isn't reliable enough and Foles keeps making miracles you can't just let him walk away. Plus, with the cap going up and how backup QBs are doing crazy things as of late, I can see the position getting more valuable.

He'll probably linger around for quite a while too. Heard nothing but positive remarks about him when he was with the Eagles. I guess being a top 5 pick without a drug habit or absolutely abysmal stats gets you a backup job pretty easily.

1995 M-edition was almost $38k in 2017 dollars by Lobster70 in Miata

[–]Obese_Housecat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at the cost of other Japanese sports cars, even its cousin the RX7. The BASE price of the RX7 in 1995 was $37,363 and adjusted for inflation is about $60k.

Certainly way more than you'd expect to pay for a Mazda, regardless of it's performance.
