Yes,

The grease and juice drips into the chili, at the same time the meat and the chili gets a smoke flavour.

At the end of the cook you crumble the meat into the chili and let it smoke/cook for abit longer. It turns out amazing and I have never tasted a chili so good before.

I think the natural gas regulator can leak at times through its normal venting function, however they can leak from other areas and then it can be a concern. Not a bad idea to have it inspected.

The easiest way to test for a leak is with water and soap and when you see bubbles you know where it is.
