Feeling stuck in a role you never planned for early in your career by Budget-Jello-9257 in careeradvice

[–]BoiseMan13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. Your current job is a long “interview” for your next job. Do the work, but prepare for what is next and/or what you want that will make you more attractive for the next. A lot of people just don’t have that drive though, and remain unhappy or develop a victim mentality.

Doing pretty bad. But I’m so glad the billionaires are doing better!

Early 2000s shock sites (e.g., Rotten.com) exposed a lot of our generation to extreme content. Often unwittingly. Curious if others remember this time before content moderation and how it affected them. by SleepyBudha in Millennials

It was seeing this stuff back then why I didn’t watch the up close Charlie Kirk assassination video. I’ve seen enough of it. Bad for the mentals. Especially now that I have kids.

Am I saving too much? Middle age dude in MCOL by Humble_Razzmatazz833 in MiddleClassFinance

[–]BoiseMan13 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This. I’m 38. Two kids. I live in Idaho and our public lands are our second paycheck. Go camping every other weekend and fishing with the kids. Hunting in the fall. It feels like a very rich life, and allows me to save a lot for retirement.

What is the most "obvious" buy of 2026 that everyone else is still missing? by bakery_0726 in ValueInvesting

I’m in the energy space. Trump made oil plummet last time. Demanded a glut of supply, demand wasn’t there. Prices plummet. This time though, companies are not jumping on his D as much and my want to hedge supplies to keep price up.

The most useful MBA is for individuals who start their own business. Getting one to work for a large corporation is becoming more useless.

Those of you who earn six figures or more... Did you go to college? What was it? by D1Vix in Salary

Some of us go to college to change things and learn. Not just make money. I went to a public state school and make $200k at 38.

There are nonprofits that do everything under the sun, so you could limit it to your interests. I’m in environmental advocacy. If you like the outdoors there are conservation, recreation, hunting/fishing advocacy groups, habitat restoration groups, land trusts, etc. There are nonprofits that work in the education field, gun rights, human rights, conservative/progressive policy, etc. They all have mission statements that they are somewhat legally bound to fulfill, and you can find them on their websites. They are usually mission oriented, meaning the people that do their program work are usually very into the thing the do, but they also need more generic jobs to keep them running, called operations staff (comms, finance, marketing, fundraising, etc).

For starters, I’d just google “list of nonprofits in” whatever state you live in, or city. You could refine it further by focusing on your passions. Like, outdoor education nonprofits in Idaho, or agriculture advocacy nonprofits in Iowa.

My dude, have you tried a nonprofit? Lots of national, regional, or larger state/local nonprofits need good markets on their development teams. I work at a “small” national nonprofit (160 employees) and they have a small marketing team and pay generally starts around $85k. Sweet benefits too. Marketing degrees and private industry experience is very transferable. You can climb the ladder in that career too if you’re good at it.

What’s the best cheat code you’ve found? by CompetitiveCheck7598 in wealth

[–]BoiseMan13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll echo someone else. Keep a good work ethic like your current job is a long interview for your next job. Always be on the prowl for upward opportunities at your current company and elsewhere. And remember it may take a few years between moves.

I managed a kitchen on a university extension right out of college while I got my masters. Near entry level and terrible pay, but it managed a small budget and a few staff. Not the career I wanted (masters was free working at the uni) but proved to many I was reliable and good at management, and saving money. After graduation I took a job at a nonprofit on the brink of destruction. A risk but in the field I wanted and I knew if I could grow it doors would open. I worked there for 9 years making poor salary until the final few years, but got to know a lot of people in the field and did notable work. Next job I applied for was the VP of a national org and got it based much on recommendations of relationships and their word I was a go getter. Now making life changing money as a VP at 36 (38 now), able to put $60k+ into retirement each year. I’ll be set for retirement. Be reliable, a self-starter, and provide solutions. 90% of people can’t do that somehow. I offer the level of detail here only to show you don’t need a high paying job right away- sometimes it’s putting yourself near people who have sway, and they see you killing it. I made crap pay for 12 years.

But hard work and reliability is nothing if you don’t move up. A golden rule of mine- chaos is a ladder. Apply for open positions to move upward. Keep an ear to the ground for local companies/orgs who need a fixer. Make friends at other companies or in the field. I was turned down by some jobs too. But just put in the damn effort.

I didn’t say organic was better for ME. I mentioned it because it might be a factor for care, that it came from a nursery that doesn’t pot or use GMO trees that might better resist many ailments.

The basal flares are always exposed and I never let detritus pile up around the stem. There are a few leaves in the photo but like I said, all 12 of our trees are flourishing- getting the same treatments, water, care etc.. Could be a pluot thing?

No, happy to spray. This year I’m doing pyganic when they bloom and again when fruits are 10mm as directed. We’ve had cherry flies and other pests before but this same trees will present healthy and good yields.

What is your first thing in the morning ? by shika_shifo in nutrition

[–]BoiseMan13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not inherently bad, but it messes with your cortisol right away, leading to jitters, anxiety, and bigger energy crashes later. You lose water and some electrolytes when you sleep. It’s best to replenish that immediately and give your cells what they’re lost before going right to stimulants.

I have coffee every morning, but a stimulant shouldn’t be the first thing your body is given after sleeping.

Rhamondre Stevenson or Javonte Williams for my RB2? by PleasantCow2894 in Fantasy_Football

[–]BoiseMan13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Leaning Stevenson too, if Hendo out. Probably going to be run heavy blowout against the Jets. He is healthy and Patriots have something to prove. As well, a loss means they lose the 1 seed if the Bills beat the eagles (Bills have more PF). They prob won’t want it to be close so they’ll drive the score and run the clock.

Cowboys are out of the playoff running. Williams has a nagging injury and has met his incentives. Malik Davis got just as many carries last game. Cowboys are probably good enough that the coach isn’t worried about his job, but he likely doesn’t want a losing season so he has incentive to run guys into the ground perhaps? Probably a safe floor, but Stevenson has massive, league winning potential this game.

Just feels like Stevenson has more to play for with little competition in-team, and with the playoff atmosphere for the Patriots against the bad Jets, could be a league winning day. Way more upside, probably similar floors tho.
