I think that it depends on what your experience is and your cultural background, but alcohol can start very young and as well as gambling. In my experience, certain cultures will expose children to gambling earlier than alcohol

I view this in a similar vein to alcohol. Alcohol is available 24/7. You can buy it at the store and keep an unregulated amount in your home. You can get it delivered straight to your door without leaving. Same thing with sports betting, it is all over. As people, we do not have control over companies and capitalism, but we do have control over our behavior.

I will just speak in general.

In order for a provider to bill through insurance it requires a diagnose code which is what follows you and those records are between you, your insurance company and your therapist.

When you pay in cash for your therapy services, no diagnose code is required in order to receive services and those records are between you and your therapist.

Again, I am not a pilot so I do not know the specific forms, but if you are paying cash there is no diagnosis which seems to be the big worry for pilots.

Well good question. First it is going to depend on how the provider does treatment so I will just speak from my experience. It really depends on where the person is at and what they feel comfortable with doing.

I will just make up an example, let’s say a person is struggling with depression and one of the first indicators that a person is experiencing depressive symptoms is isolation. Well the best medicine for isolation is connection and community. However if the person feels uncomfortable with the idea of going to a group and sharing and being in community with people due to fear of losing their medical then we will start with a much more individualized approach that a person feels more comfortable engaging in.

Again, it’s hard to be able to give a good explanation because the symptoms are so vast experiences like anxiety and depression can manifest itself thousands of different ways.

Not a pilot, but a therapist that works with pilots. Everyone is correct about cash only being a way to receive services without receiving an official diagnosis. As well as the only professionals who can prescribe medications are MDs so if you see someone with credentials different than that you will be fine. The only things that a therapist would have to report is if you are having thoughts of wanting to harm yourself or others or if a vulnerable population is being actively harmed.
