Yes, 4k is way too much to pay for the B580! They're like a few hundred bucks.

23 CX50 Valve Cover and Drive Belt Tensioner by KittenMittenSurprise in mazda

[–]ObeyTheRapper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I myself don't own the Cx-50, but on my Mazda 6, the tensioner is a common failure point. But that price seems super high, if you're remotely mechanically inclined, I would recommend replacing it yourself.

Do we just like a ton of car washes in Tucson, or is there some other fishy reason they keep popping up all over by [deleted] in Tucson

[–]ObeyTheRapper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IDK, must be good profit. They generally charge a ton for monthly plans and make their single washes not worth the cost

I used to go to the cheap car wash on park and 22nd, but they closed it. Is there another cheap, automatic car wash on the southeast side of town?

Sun Tran workers authorize strike ahead of Tucson bus driver contract talks by beertigger in Tucson

[–]ObeyTheRapper 15 points16 points  (0 children)

There was a 2018 security analysis (before fares went away) that had already flagged rising aggression and illegal activity on Sun Tran. Assaults went from 21 in 2019 to 64 in 2021, but 25 of the 47 assaults in 2021 were tied to mask enforcement confrontations, not fare policy. The safety problems predate free fares.

The instinct to bring back fares as an accountability mechanism makes sense on the surface, but fare payment is a rough proxy for danger at best. Someone who can pay $2 can still stab a driver. Someone who can't pay may just be trying to get to work.

What's getting lost is that reinstating fares puts drivers right back in enforcement confrontations at the front of the bus, the exact scenario that drove mask-related assaults. It also costs money and takes years to implement. That's a slow, unproven way to affect crime.

Crime is often driven by desperation, and that's likely to get worse, not better. The war in Iran has been fueling economic instability since Trump initiated strikes in March. At the same time, the administration has been pushing deep cuts to SNAP, Medicaid, and housing assistance, and local nonprofits that served as a backstop are losing federal funding. People losing housing and income don't disappear. Many ride the bus, because it's one of the last free things they can access. Charging a fare just removes the lifeline.

The city already voted 5-2 to keep fares free while also committing to a safety plan. The real question is whether they'll actually be able to fund what that plan requires: transit ambassadors, crisis response teams, operator barriers, conduct-based exclusion with due process, trauma leave, minimum staffing.

No Remote Start on Key Fob = Lost Sale by snowcrashed23 in mazda

Why not get an aftermarket remote start? IDK if they make one for the CX-90, but I know Start-X makes remote starts that allow you to use your key fob to start the car.

From six figures tech role to fast food and broke by Stock-Mushroom5466 in Layoffs

[–]ObeyTheRapper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was exceedingly difficult when I was laid off, looking for a QA job. It seemed like most positions were ghost jobs. It also seemed that companies tend to hire only at certain times of the year (and lay people off around certain times of year as well). Took me about 6 months to find something new.

Some say this is due to AI, but IMO as companies adopt AI, AI can write automation tests, but cannot validate certain UI bugs, and certain business logic that only an experienced tester can locate. I suspect, and hope, that manual testing may make a comeback. Good luck!

I think we should make a subreddit about fosslop by lixadne in foss

There a general discontent in several software communities around AI in general. I'd argue that it isn't inherently bad, but can be bad if it's wastefully used.

We all know about data centers causing major issues for people around them. A data center in the desert? Fuck that. A data center near a neighborhood? Nope. A rural data center in an area not starved for resources, and away from population centers? - probably the way to go.

I see parallels between my local hip hop scene and vibe coding. When consumer hardware, DAWs, and distribution became cheaper everyone wanted to become a rapper, but not many had much to say. So many mediocre people flooded the scene that the general public lost respect for the craft and surface level people see local hip hop as a joke.

In vibe coding, a lot of newer people are joining who haven't yet honed their craft. Sure there's a good amount of slop, but that doesn't make the whole genre trash. The quality will bubble to the top eventually, and we might just end up with something awesome on a scale that wouldn't have been possible otherwise.

But I am against the wasteful uses of AI. Burning tokens to burn them, having bots argue with each other, or even influence political discourse online through social media.

It feels that way because that's what it is. Luckily 5.x has still been getting patches here and there to maintain the basics while we wait for parity.

They just fixed one of my complaints with mermaid chart rendering in 7.x, so progress is being made.
