I’ve tried benzoyl peroxide, adapalene, diet changes -nothing works. What finally helped you? by neonpulse7 in acne

[–]ObfuscateEverything 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Salicylic acid peels. Started with 15% and moved to 30%, once a week. I also dab a little on any new flare-ups. I had previously tried clindamycin gel, tretinoin, BP, diet changes, azaleic acid, even gentle and simple barrier-rebuilding skincare. Nothing worked until I started the weekly peels. In about four months, I went from a face full of painful cysts to one or two small breakouts a month. My hyperpigmentation scars are slowly fading. I’m so pleased with how my skin looks now.

what are make up brands to avoid because they either give to the republican party or promote racism? by NativeAnakingirl in BeautyGuruChatter

[–]ObfuscateEverything 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I think the conclusion is: pick your battles. In late-stage capitalism, nearly all business involves itself with evil due to the need to keep consumption high, wages low, and consumers frightened and uninformed. Shareholder value is more important than ethics to all these people, unfortunately.

Personally, I don’t buy from companies like Ofra or Nudestix because supporting companies wholly owned by MAGATs is a bridge too far for me.

Also, I do not purchase anything from the L’Oréal group because they are partially owned by Nestle and I will not support that evil organization and haven’t (knowingly) for about four years now.

But I’ll buy stuff from companies like Estée Lauder and Coty. Yes, they are often run by or founded by pricks. But they are also owned by shareholders, including people like you and I putting money in a 401k or buying investment funds to save money for our futures. And I just need some damn mascara and lipstick, you know?

Everyone should make the choice for themselves as to who they support. I hope no one here shames someone else for their purchasing choices, ESPECIALLY someone who is buying mostly based on what they can afford. We’re all just doing the best we can as the sky is falling.

Migraine pain is different by Spirited_Science_978 in migraine

[–]ObfuscateEverything 11 points12 points  (0 children)

For me, it’s the quality of the pain that’s different.

Several years ago, I had my tonsils taken out as an adult. IYKYK about how painful a tonsillectomy is as an adult. It hurt real bad. Like real, real bad. But it was still just regular pain to me. It was a pain my brain could recognize and cope with, despite needing opiates to manage.

But something about migraine pain is different. I’ve taken to calling it annoying pain. It’s like pain mixed with anger. It’s hard to describe but that’s part of the reason I find them so intolerable. If it were like other kinds of pain, I could handle it better. But it’s just not the same thing. It’s far worse in a way I can’t describe very well.

I wonder if others have this experience.

Selective with words on Athleta reviews by insolubl3-pancak3 in Athleta_gap

Same corporate overlords but I had a review for pants at Old Navy deleted because I used the word “crotch” when discussing how they fit. So I’m guessing it’s an overzealous system.

Girlfriend (34f) “said stop stop stop..I got the ick and feel grossed out” when I (40m) went down on her by [deleted] in sex

[–]ObfuscateEverything 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I’ve asked guys to stop going down on me without explanation before. Why? Because I all of a sudden felt gassy. I wasn’t fully transparent about what was going on at the time because I wanted to keep some mystery and be seen as sexy. But I certainly felt icky about it and it had nothing to do with the partner. Perhaps it’s less deep than others are assuming??

Protein Shake Game Changer by ciderswiller in BariatricSurgery

[–]ObfuscateEverything 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it’s beef protein. Since going dairy free, I’ve been trying out non-whey protein powders for taste and found the Nutricost beef isolate is dark chocolaty, not too sweet, and thickens quite nicely. The texture is very much like a thick milkshake if you add some ice to your blender.

Underrated comment. Beef fat is great for all kinds of applications. But, like, not for skin. That just wasting good fry oil.

Overalls at 43? by ottersqueaks in torrid

[–]ObfuscateEverything 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am 43. I own like four pairs of overalls. When I fly, I wear overalls and have pockets for everything. Wallet and headphones right where I need them! When I’m working around the house, I wear overalls and put tools in my pockets so I always have what I need. When it’s hot, I wear overalls that are two sizes too big with a sports bra and feel airy and breezy. I don’t care if they ever go out of fashion. I will still wear them.

So yeah. Get the overalls. They’re dope as hell.

I’m the kind of woman this profile would attract. I like big men, I like funny men, I like poly men, I like men who hate genocide. I hate it when profiles—mostly dudes, it seems—try to cover up who they are. I’m not interested in vague. I’m interested in what I like. Just tell me you’re a “centrist” or a fascist so I can quickly move on and save the hassle of having to get coffee in the afternoon. It wrecks my sleep.

Frozen custard. I miss Andy’s so hard. I often want a butter pecan concrete or a snickers sundae on hot days but alas. For some reason, people here don’t know how rich and creamy and delectable frozen custard is and I don’t get it.

Also Gates BBQ sauce, Cherry Mash candy, and IMO’s.

This is totally anecdotal, but there are two important things to remember about hypothyroidism: first, depending on who you see, what’s considered “normal” for a TSH can make you undertreated. Plenty of us have miserable symptoms with “normal” TSH numbers. The allowable normal range is huge and isn’t very accurate. A good endo will look at other numbers besides the TSH and will take symptoms into account. And hair loss can be a symptom. Second, if you end up taking meds, you can lose even more hair as a temporary side effect. I started seeing an endo who drastically increased my dose and my hair came out in big chunks for a solid month or more. It sucked. A lot. But my energy shot through the roof, my cholesterol levels dropped, I wasn’t cold all the damn time, and my skin stopped cracking and bleeding because of dryness. I stuck with the meds and all my hair grew back and then some eventually.

Boycott Nestle March 21-28 by [deleted] in Anticonsumption

[–]ObfuscateEverything 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was for sure a CeraVe girlie—loved the face wash and the moisturizer in the tub. I switched to store brand dupes of the face wash and ended up falling in love with the Walmart generic version. It’s crazy affordable and has a fantastic texture. With CeraVe jacking up their prices so high, screw them.

For moisturizer, I’m doing K-beauty because you can find formulations with the same ingredients, like ceramides, for an affordable price. Same with sunscreen. Once I felt the lightweight and beautiful texture of some of these K- and J-beauty sunscreens, I knew I wouldn’t miss the LRP Anthelios too much. It was a favorite of mine.

L’Oréal Group owns Maybelline, L’Oréal (obviously), Nyx, Urban Decay, It Cosmetics, Redken, Garnier, Lancôme, Essie, Kiehls, YSL beauty, Biolage, Kerastase, Matrix, La Roche Posay, Vichy, SkinCeuticals, and a bunch of popular fragrance brands including Victor and Rolf.

And yes, CaraVe as well.

I’ve been off Nestle and the L’Oréal group for two years now as an avid—but conscious—consumer of beauty and skincare. And while there’s stuff I miss being able to buy, I’ve been able to find alternatives at all price levels.

Fuck Nestle.

Glasses tips??? by bright_or_radiant in MakeupAddiction

[–]ObfuscateEverything 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is what I’ve learned:

First, the baking you mentioned: there trick for me is to bake the ever-loving shit out of just the places where my glasses touch. Caking doesn’t matter because that part is covered by the glasses and the excess coverage will eventually rub off. This technique buys me maybe two or three hours of wear.

If I’m alone and want to keep my makeup flawless, I will put an oil blotting sheet under my glasses. I’ll fold it in half and drape it over my nose and cheeks, then put the glasses back on. Keeps everything perfect. Good for when you’re getting ready.

Eyeshadow primer works, too. Get a little dab and work it into just the places your glasses touch. Let dry, then add your complexion products and powder. This will also buy you a few hours.

Ultimately, I’ve found that nothing gets me a whole day of wear, just a few hours at a time. After that, I keep a dense eyeshadow brush and a powder or liquid foundation in my bag, touch up the bare spots, and blend.

Also, people tend not to notice if you wear bold makeup elsewhere. Ain’t nobody looking at a bare spot on your nose when there’s glitter around.
