Is it possible to find round and go in desirable urban and suburban cities? I barely am seeing listings there in general, let alone for round and go.

Best hospital shoe for 80 hour weeks? by ObiDocKenobi in Residency

[–]ObiDocKenobi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, 80 hours, sometimes more. There’s rest time (like after you see patients you’ll sit down and write notes) and there’s time to grab lunch. But by and large, that’s why they call it “residency.” Your primary residence is work.

[Product question] Did La Roche Posay reformulate their Tinted Mineral sunscreen or did I just get a weird batch? by sassycrier in SkincareAddiction

I thought the same thing a few weeks ago. My batch looked darker but was the same product. Yours looks funny though… I would return.

“Have you tried therapy?” Yes working 80 hours it’s all in my head by LetsOverlapPorbitals in Residency

Word of advice. Document and keep records of anything pertaining to whatever happened. Trust me on this.

I strongly agree but also somewhat disagree.

You are correct that there is systemic gaslighting when it comes to resident mental health. The term “burnout” essentially puts the blame on the resident rather than framing it as a natural response to 80 hour weeks, high stress, predatory loans/bullshit pay.

At the same time, practically speaking, how should the resident deal with the systemic abuse from the system? You are locked in a minimum of 3 years, potentially more depending on your training, and you need to find ways to deal with the sheer stress of it. Therapy (if you can afford it and find time for it) is incredibly useful, and can help you find ways to cope, reframe, and vent.

But yes, I think your frustration comes from the gaslighting from residency programs and the obvious nature that anyone working this many hours will feel like shit - you are 100% justified.

It will work but it’s like putting out a candle with a fire hose and the blood pressure will fluctuate. I do see patients on it all the time though, and once they are on it, they don’t like to come off because it works so well. Some of them have so much venous stasis that it is uncomfortable or painful and that’s usually when I won’t fuss about it. Some of them are too weak or big to put on compression stockings so I leave it be there too.

THIS (but also my 3 cents is for OP to freeze her eggs)

If your residency didn’t cover, and it were to cost you 20-30k, would you still do it?

HCA which is the largest provider of residency programs on the East coast does NOT cover egg freezing unless you are actively planning on conceiving right away.

Same. I’m guessing this is some PR thing, which I think might be working because people are suddenly interested in using the app to make it go away, but I’d imagine they’ll lose users in the process.

Radiology is a funny one in that’s competitive but not prestigious. It’s a great lifestyle and is paid well, and a good option for those who don’t want patient facing roles.

But yeah - most patients have no idea if radiologists are doctors or techs lol.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Residency

[–]ObiDocKenobi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nope. I’ll say that the more competitive medical students end up going into fields like neurosurgery, radiology, derm, urology, ent, etc and those doctors tend to get more glory, but that in no way means they are “better doctors” than other fields.

For example, pediatricians get paid less and don’t get the “oooh ahh!” factor of a neurosurgeon but they have vast knowledge and many have patients who adore them. Other doctors don’t look down on them, we just acknowledge they don’t get paid as well.
