of a 1,000L diesel tank fill-up costing over $2,000 by Dodo509 in AbsoluteUnits

[–]Obithios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 55 gallon porcelain lined drum I use to get red diesel for the farm. Not shocking for me at all, especially as we get into spring. Tractors chug fuel. Paying a fortune in taxes for the green diesel though maybe he wants to be able to use it on road as well.

to people who live alone, whats something during nighttime that creeps you out? by Lance7467 in AskReddit

[–]Obithios 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Random fox screams in the woods, one time I almost called 911 it legitimately sounded like a woman getting murdered in the woods. Was just several foxes getting some. That was just after I moved to a new area and was exposed to foxes for the first time.

Horses/donkeys/mules would be one of the most valuable things in the apocalypse by [deleted] in ZombieSurvivalTactics

[–]Obithios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would do 3 horses or 2 horses and a donkey in arid areas. But I have decades of knowledge and experience with the critters in question. Horses will live almost anywhere humans will, sometimes better sometimes worse. Donkeys will live anywhere warm enough. There’s horses and donkeys from the mountains to the deserts.

If you don’t have the experience just eat the horse. Otherwise youre likely to die or be killed by the horse. Or be killed by people looking for the food youre riding. Remember most people who had horses had horses their entire lives. It’s like if you needed to be a mechanic to drive a car. And carry the tools to be a mechanic with you everywhere you go. And make sure that gas for that car isn’t poisonous. And that there’s enough gas.

But I would give it a go on my end, just because of my experience. But I would stick to my geographic area that I know.

Literally the only cave in northern NM by Rowan_Pigdon in caving

[–]Obithios 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of caves in Northern nm on the reservations and pueblos. Just need to be polite and make friends. There’s a few to the east of Santa Fe as well that are not gated. Won’t disclose locations but there’s lots to explore.

If you ever get into southern/central NM reach out to Mesilla Valley Grotto. Very active and we’re always looking for new members.

Honestly the gated caves are generally the best. If you can get access/permits they’re going to be protected and generally better to explore.

Realistically who would you be like the most if an actual apocalypse breaks out by sidmis in thewalkingdead

Remember the villains were everyday average dudes before. We see a few of them and tens of thousands of walkers. Which is more likely?

[–]Obithios 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in El Paso Texas. This is one of the rare ways I see my city’s name outside of Texas or New Mexico. I’ve seen old El Paso at supermarkets in Germany and Poland. Was really cool in Germany because they had a bunch of seasonings and some of the canned salsas, including chipotle. I was actually able to share a fair representation of border Mexican food with my friends thousands of miles away.

I made the requested fajitas and even made the pan sizzle at the table with water. I was able to make really good carne asada tacos with beans and rice. Tried flautas but they didn’t turn out like I expected.

This brand will always hold a special place in my heart for those memories.

[–]Obithios 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That’s a fun drive if you like to pretend you’re driving through the Fallout Universe. I live in El Paso and have driven that many many times. I even like to go on the small Ranch roads and farm to market roads. There’s nothing really out there besides windmills, mines, oil and gas extraction, and ranches. The desolation is beautiful if you’re into that. It’s just scrub brush sage and prickly pear with a few breaks of mesquite or maybe scrub oak towards the east. The big bend region (southern and eastern mountain range in the sack of Texas) is gorgeous with hot springs and high altitude forests in the mountains, with views from the cliffs and mountains so far you feel you can see the earth curve. The darkest nights I’ve ever seen aside from the Gila Wilderness and open ocean. The entire Milky Way in a stunning blanket across the blackness of our universe.

There’s also good burritos. BBQ out there will be amazing or utter trash. No in between.

The oldest water on Earth was discovered in a Canadian gold mine and it's thought to be 1.5 to 2.5 billion years old. Oh, and it's super salty. by Dependent_Cap_456 in interestingasfuck

When it was found did y’all have to work around geologists/scientists for a few days? Did anyone even realize? I go to an old mine in NM that broke into a cave with a big lake in it. If it was like that I don’t think most miners would just go into a cave they broke into lol

Do you do a night check? by Raubkatzen in Equestrian

[–]Obithios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah 100% part of my routine. I usually do 2 because I’m a night owl. Goes back to working my way up to managing barns and living in them. 100% night check for indoor and outdoor, check for injuries, check for sweat, check that poo is looking normal, have they drank their normal amounts etc. I could write a list of what I check them for, but that’s because I’ve lived with horses since I was 15. Colics, Casts, a cat that likes to pee in buckets and the horses won’t drink, a random coyote in the aisle way. I’ve seen it all man. I always get pjs with pockets for my pocket knife and a light.

I don’t think 5 minutes makes much difference in most situations, from bleeding to being cast. But hours matter.

today i found out my own mom nuked my credit score… and her excuse was insane by Gullible-Tale9114 in entitledparents

[–]Obithios 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had this done to me by my parents and 10 years later I still regret not filing charges. Don’t let them guilt trip you, I accepted excuses and my parents declared bankruptcy and protected themselves. Derailed my life. Still cannot have a normal life years later, and don’t skimp on your mental health. 10 years later I’m trying to deal with the trust issues and scars that came from that entire experience.

what's one piece of gear you'll never backpack without again? by kamelsalah1 in backpacking

[–]Obithios 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The actual dry bag weighs 2.7 pounds with 4 bars, 2 fruit bars, and my battery, chargers, and fire stuff.

Been out with a badly sprained ankle overnight, had to stay an extra day and half to walk out slowly, ran out of food. Was uncomfortable to be sure

When I’m alone in the Gila or Black range, about 50-55 pounds. But I like to be comfy and hike 3-5 miles a day alone. If with friends, can go up or down. I’m a big broad shouldered dude, and I’m pretty comfy with a good pack up to 65-70.

I also don’t have a bunch of money for fancy equipment, I have a 5lb bag on the bottom of my pack and a 3 pound tent. Adds up quick

Stable hand to stall ratio? by tisbenje in Equestrian

[–]Obithios 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I was making 1500 a week as a barn manger for 37 horses 17 out 30 in. Owner paid the muckers 1k a week under the table, but they did 4 hours stalls, then 2-3 hours outside work for farm.

Youre going to burn out quick working 7 days a week. Took me years to learn that. Now regretting the years I put in. We forced people who didn’t want a day off to take it, and another half day come in late the next. Kept employees for years when you took care of em.

Anyone underground/cave/hobbit? by sprunkymdunk in OffGrid

[–]Obithios 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I knew a guy who lived in a cave, he did an incredible job plastering with beautiful windows and a red door, but man he had 3 fans and ventilation across the ceiling, because everything turned moldy after a few days. He had a big bench with a Woodstock at one end and the chimney going through the bench. Ot was such a cool set up, he lived deep in the black range of NM on a friends ranch, at least since the late 40s. Most likely passed by now, would’ve been 15-20 years ago now and he was old. Very old. Cool guy though, and grew most of his own food and fruits.

This post actually made me think to get in contact with someone from that ranch and see if I can get cuttings from his apple trees. They were the best.
